    Do you believe in this:

    Code:
    http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html
And/or what do you think the total world population is right now and what are your thoughts about the rapidly increasing population in our world and the lack of food we are going to be facing within a few years?

    Yes, its accurate.

It takes all the census figurs and rates of growth and figures an average between all of them and builds on that in terms of seconds, a lot of sites do it. Its not 100% perfect, but I wouldn't imagine it to be more than a couple million off on a yearly basis.

Okay that sounds great, what do you think about the rapidly growing population of the world and the fact that the world is running out of resources (such as food, water) and the effects of Global warming on us?

Water is a supply we won't be low on for multiple hundreds of generations.

Food, possibly, but we can already artificially create food and eat it safely, such as the stem cell research on animals that have been killed, cooked, and eaten.

By the time food runs out so that we have to return to stem cell animal cloning for food it will be extremely advanced and well be capable of making anything we could want, in the minimum artificially.

Global warming isn't doing anything :) . Thank you.

However the food? Not a problem, grow more food :) . Not enough land for food? Flatten land that can't be used for irrigation systems, and put some there, there's the food problem.

I have never gone one day in my life thinking that global warming is affecting me. Reason being, is because every year when I say "Wow, it's so ------ing hot" during the middle of summer, I know that later that year it will be colder than it was last year :) .

    Ditto Shneaky with global warming.

As for food China is already pioneering "Agri-towers" where multiple storey greenhouse like structures are built that proved up to five times the farming land than would be possible in the same space, all designed with "eco" in mind so its self sustaining and generates a profit without creating much pollution.

Oh PS, dont think running out of food is a new "threat". In the early 1800's a man called Thomas Malfus (wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malthus) was around preaching the end of the world through massive famine. Then the agricultural revolution happened and all was well. Its social evolution: as more people are there competing for the same amount of food, so the food must increase to match the population and to do this new technology must be invented or a population crash occurs.

Well, you actually need to pay attention when you drag global warming into the discussion since I read this article the other day about the fact that the earth isn't heating up, the research even concluded that it got colder again near the poles.
The research constited of 3000 of thermometers that were placed inside small robotlike things that were then deploited in the oceans. Now, each one was placed at a distance of 300 kilometres. It measured warmth and also the salt levels of the oceans.

And like I said, they didn't detect any heating, they even detected slight cooling-down. This would sorta explain why other methods (like satellites) couldn't find any heating over the past 7-10 years. And the Antarctic Ice isn't melting, it's even gaining ice... (Click here for interesting article).

So it's actually quite nice to hear a different side from time to time because I'm pretty tired of that Al Gore ----. He's always talking about that the development of global heating are going faster and faster and then here, the opposite is proven.
And on a side note, Mr Gore should keep an eye on his OWN ellectricity bill and other expenses (pool and stuff) and he should stop acting like the hypocrit he is :)

Don't get me started on Al Gore. Here in the UK his "documentary" is almost banned from being shown in schools because so much of the data he uses is out of date, wrong or shown in a way against its actual meaning its ludicrous. Plus if you actually watch it the whole thing is basically a rant about why he didn't get the presidency.

And you're quite right SP about the thickening of the southern Ice Caps. Even more interesting is that many southern glaciers are in fact growing at increasing rates. In fact by some estimates the amount of shrinking glaciers are actually less than those growing or remaining unchanged globally.

We will either go with Ester Boserups' positive views that necessity is the mother of invention or the negative views of Thomas Malthus who believe that world poppulation goes through checks. Read there theorys on wiki ;)

I'm doing world population and resources for my final A level exam and will have to write a synoptic essa on it during the exam.

True fact. I believe if we have no advances in the future food-wise i believe i heard we can only sustain up to 10 billion people.

Finally, some sort of intelligent life on this site. I love the fact that everyone thinks Global Warming means the earth is getting to get warmer.
The world is currently between Ice ages; give it a couple (million) years and it'll be in a ice age. I'm not sure of the exact number, but if I remember correctly, in about 2 billion the earth itself will be in such a drought that scientist predict that most, if not all, life on earth will die. It'll be what Mars is.
But with that said, we'll probably be living on other planets (and moons)

I highly doubt humans will colonize our solar system. Maybe in another few thousand years.
