More of a question to the Japanese/European (as in, living in their respective 'homelands', it doesn't matter about your ethnicity lulz) members of the board: did you get MK: Wii? And if so, what do you think of it?

I got it today...As it was launched here in Britain...Today. Lol. Its good, in my opinion, if unbalanced weapon-wise - having twelve karts per track means anyone in seventh place or below gets all the super-powerful items. This means the 'lightning' item strikes around three-times a lap. >_>

The controls (I play using the 'Wii Wheel' that came packaged with the game) are very fluid. They're hard to get used to at first, but after ten minutes or so, you'll be turbo-drifting and 'snaking' in no time. =]

I've yet to play it online though, so yeah...I can't really give an overall verdict yet. x3

Americans have to wait until April 27th (I think) before they can play it, without importing...Still, its fair, you got Brawl before us. But by the end of the month, we still won't have Brawl, whereas you will have Kart. Darn Europe for having all those languages to translate into. ._.

    Anyway...Yeah. Discuss. :3

It is so obvious you're not a long-time kart fan.

    edit: I wish I had a wii :(

Thank goodness someone understands our plight. :P

It was out in Japan yesterday

I own/have played Mario Kart (SNES), Mario Kart 64 (N64), Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA), Mario Kart: Double Dash (Gamecube), Mario Kart DS (DS), Arcade GP (as it's in an arcade near me), and Mario Kart Wii (Wii). Not a long time fan, eh?

I know the items appear frequently in the different games in the series, but Mario Kart Wii just blows the others out of the water. I realise that they appear to the players that need the boost, but getting a Star, then Lightning, then a Bullet Bill, then a Mega Mushroom, then Triple Red Shells all in a row when in fifth place, is just stupid. >_>

That doesn't prove that you are a long-time fan, it proves you know how to use the internet.

As for Mario Kart, its always been like that.
You can have all the skill in the world, your mum still has a chance in beating you.

and yes I've played Mario Kart Wii.

Its up to you on whether you believe that I've played them or not. I don't see what lying about what video games I've played on the internet will achieve, though. =|

Anyway, in regards to the topic, I tried out online play...And its a lot more impressive than that of other Wii wi-fi titles (*Cough* Strikers Charged *Cough*). Its organised, lag free, and provides a clear record sheet and a decent ranking system. I'm looking forward to when Nintendo release the first 'Competition'. x3

Seriously, not true. Both SNES and N64 versions never had that kind of bias that came in with the GBA game and continued with MK:DD on GC. Even MK:DS had it largely sorted out that the items were a lot fairer, though still not as good as the original. If you can honestly lose on MK:64 whilst playing someone who doesn't know the tracks you're doing something very wrong. Yeh the N64 had speed boosts for those losing but it just helped close the gap, it rarely resulted in fluke wins.
I have played this serious since the beginning and I just don't agree with you. I may never have played the Arcade and I'm only getting MK:Wii tomorrow so can't yet judge but really, if they've gone backwards from the DS game which had nearly sorted out the bias weapons then i'll be really disappointed.

Also just as a tip, unless it was scrapped in the last stages of development I know MK:Wii was meant to come with a mode that disabled weapons making it a straight racer where fastest laptimes actually mean you win :P

    Hmm...
Well I reckon its much better like this.

If I wanted skill, I would play the greatest driving game EVER!

Fluke wins are entertaining, so is friendly competitions.

Yeah Wii controller has its moments but I hated last night:

Picture the scene, its 11pm, I'm tired but refuse to go to sleep as it brings school that little quicker and there's a race on MK:Wii online. It begins, I kick butt for three laps using the Wii controller and on the final leg of the first race I'm almost at the finish and three red shells hit me in succession. Cursing I check to find the second place racer almost upon me but get away just ahead of him. Coming up to the line, he misses with a green shell and I celebrate by throwing my arms up into the air punching with my right fist...only to find the sudden movement has caused my kart to do pretty much a full 180 turn and I'm now facing backwards literally inches from the line watching my opponent scream by to take first place.

    Stupid motion controls...
