http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php...372479&st=0 <_< i was a member of a forum with a large graphics section for a long time. the GIMP bashing that went on there was something awful. i participated in it, as a PS CS2 user, until someone asked me if i'd actually tried GIMP - really gave it the chance it deserved. i hadn't, so i did later. and long story short, i became one of the top GIMP sigmakers on the web. eventually, people at the forum started to change their minds about GIMP. bashing doesn't occur, because they now know what people can do with it. but every so often, i come across topics like that, and it's like a flashback to a past i thought i'd resolved. let me just say this: in BC, bashing any program is not acceptable. don't bash GIMP, don't bash PS - we're here to improve ourselves and have fun, not tear each other down.
Agreed with Pepsi here, he is one of the better designers on this forum, his work is great and never fails to impress me, no matter what he does it always looks great and what program does he use? Yes GIMP.. I don't want to see people from this crew bashing others about what program they use, by all means have a discussion about it but do not go bashing on someone because of the program they use. If you have never given GIMP an honest and proper try then you really have no say in these matters, if you can't even be bothered to give it a good shot/and or work with that program for a while then you should really stop and think about what your saying as you have no idea wtf your talking about. I myself have never tried GIMP, i wouldn't know my ass from my tits in the program if i were to download it but i have seen some awesome work come from it and i will base my own opinions on that fact alone, but i would never, NEVER bash someone because they use that program. I don't mean to sound cruel or as if im telling you what you can and can't do, far from it, just getting my point across to you guys. Its not nice, basically thats all im saying.
i used gimp when i was overidden with viruses and wiped my computer and installed ubuntu fiesty fawn for a month it wasn't bad but I am more acquainted with photoshop's interface so I like to stay with what i'm familiar at ^_^
I've never used Gimp so I can't judge either way. I have respect for those who use GIMP because I heard it's not incredibly easy.
not saying you're wrong at all pepsi, just all media arts and graphic communications courses after high school require Photoshop, but GIMP isn't nearly as bad as people make it, I don't think I've gotten the opportunity to see your 5 BEST tags, which would be something I would cherish.
tbh i used gimp b4 and it is basically all u needfor most of photoshop's functions. just that ps has a bit more stuff. so stuff them just use the program u like best. it doesnt matter. program bashing is like racism.
I'm just gonna say the opening posts in this thread gave me the tone ( or impression of tone ) that could be defined as communism. lol. " You will not bash any program " All that a-side, its not what you use its what you produce. A good tradesman never blames his tools.
i completely agree did we go back in time and end up in russia back in the 60's. we as human beings have alot of freedoms, and the one that i care about the most is freedom of speech, and i personally will under no circumstances accept censorship. if i want to bash gimp or gimp users for whatever reason that pops into my mind, then thats ecxactly what i will do.
I tried Gimp, but didn't like it. Maybe it's because I'm so used to photoshop but I personally hated it. Although that's not to say you can't make some amazing things using Gimp, I've seen people make much better things in Gimp than PS...not saying Gimp is better than PS either, each has it's moments. Price is one of those moments <_<
It's not the program, its how you USE the program. It's not about the car, its about the driver. etc.
Lol, GIMP is actually an awesome software, I used it waay before, when I started lol. (Oh, and I looked at Curlyhairedboy's (Dr Pepsi) tuts then on GIMPtalk, my first sprite signature was inspired then ) I still think at times those tags are or were awesome at the time of production I stopped though, wanted to try Photoshop. I did the 30 Day Trial, and got accustomed to it. I used GIMP after that until I bought Photoshop. Even now, at times, some effects for me are achieved only in GIMP so I combine Photoshop Elements and GIMP elements. Oh, and those who say GIMP is tough to learn, use the software. I learnt it (as a begginer to GFX) in a couple of days. Everything is tough, even Photoshop takes time to learn. Better yet, GIMP is cheap. Advantages and disadvantages are present in both softwares. eg) Photoshop's Undo/Redo took some time for me Ctrl+Alt+Z where as in all other major softwares, not only GFX softwares, its Ctrl+Z. Another, GIMP has less filters than Photoshop, but Photoshop's wide range of filters don't include some that GIMP has. Before you bash a program, learn it first, use it and then give your opinion. ^^Holy ----, thats a big post
"I quote every important post in this thread that should have understand to all BC members. "When criticizing a work of other person. Tell him what is good and bad and tell him some tips and advice that will help him not to turn him down.
