As you said yourself, theyre pretty dull. It is just, the color is missing. The flow is slight there but I cannot really see depth. The effects are very low, as well as the flow. (a rhyme ) Hmnn if it is been a long while as you said, pick up an old psd from you and look how you did the signatures, it is very useful, I do that sometimes do when I have longer breaks.

v2 on both 1st one is a good start 2nd meh not feelin it at all add more contrast to the render on 1st
