I'm needing a new computer, and this is what I'm looking at building

    http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishli...tNumber=8733628

No OS included because I'm thinking about trying a Hackintosh, but not 100% sure
    Does this all look good?

My main question is whether a 650 Watt power supply will be enough, but I'm pretty sure it will.

don't look solely at the wattage of a PSU since there is no standard method of rating wattage(many manufacturers misrepresent their units)
as far as PSU's go I'd recommend basically any one of these. Though the 450W version would be pushing it a bit. Hx is modular Tx is non-modular FYI. But they're all good and very reason ably price.

other consideration is Enhance ENP-Gh, though they're only a good dead off of ewiz.com

also phenom = fail, 10% slower per clock than c2q, doesn't scale as well(you might be able tog et a phenom to 2.6GHz, c2 scales to 3.6Ghz fairly easily)
IMO it's worth a 1.6% increase in overal system cost for a 16% increase in stock CPU performance and a 50% difference when overclocked.
now I'm not saying that there isn't a place for phenom. In the server market barcelona is a very good competitive chip, it's just that you're not running in a server environment with thousands of processors and server workloads.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819117129 (if you're trying to cut $$$, it's basically a core 2 quad, just higher binned as it's intended for server usage)
    or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115017
and then a board, ds3r or lan party DK

Graphics card, the 3870 x2 is a beast it's about on par with the 8800GTX. depending on what games you're going for it's not a bad solution and if you're into benchmarking it is king. I personally would get a 8800GTS512 though. It's dang close as far as performance goes and is roughly half the cost.

RAM, if you're not overclocking, memory performance isn't that critical as the system isn't in as much need of data throrougpput
if you are, the you can just jack up the RAM yourself...

should be using micron d9NHL chips. Those are basically the best 128mb chips on the market(each module has 16 chips, 16*128=2048 per stick) basically all micron d9 does similar. Now the 128mb chips don't do as well as the 64mb chips do as far as overclocking but they do come close. Plus with 2*2GB you're not going to get 64mb chips because then they'd need 32 chips and that doesn't work

Thanks for your input xlink. I was also talking to someone about the hackintosh thing, and they are saying that they've never seen it work with an amd processor, so I will probably need to change that anyways.

Just ran into a bit of financial trouble so it's looking like it's going to be another month or two before I can really consider getting this again though. Pretty much sucks. I suppose I'll post here once I have the money again.

whoever said that is full of it...
note that regular macs run on intel hardware, intel chipset AND intel procs

also the CPU is largely transparent to the OS FYI.

Hackintosh doesn't like ati 2900 series and newer. I tried and couldn't get the video to initialize. Not sure if things have changed though

hackintosh SHOULD work with an 8800, but no guarantees, I've heard about people getting G80 cores to run under it via hacked drivers but not sure about g92.

alright, i'll keep that in mind. i'd looked at the 8800GTS and the prices is probably going to drop now that the 9800 GX2 is out

don't plan on it. atleast not much. all the 9800GX2 is is TWO 880GTSes in a single package for OVER double the price.

that's hardly going to drop the price of the 8800GTS. they're already around $230 after rebate.
