Def ATI. Just seems like it will outperform Nvidia in most categories.(I just like ati :P) Btw your rich.
ATI has cool tweaking tools but so does Nvidia. But ATI doesn't have its own Stereo drivers like Nvidia so that disappointed me when I bought my Radeon 9800 Pro.

nVidia currently have superior technology, the next big battle will be the R250 v the 6900 (possibly) nvidia won in this gen card race, pixel shader 3 and DDR3 RAM made all the difference, they out performed ATi in almost all benchmarks, thus why i stick Nvidia (nForce and GeForce user)

The reason different cards run different games better (ie Doom3 slower on ATI) is the coding needed to run them. ATI cards perform better under DirectX instructions, nVidia cards are build for games using OpenGL. Its as simple as that. So look at which instruction set more of your games use and buy the corresponding card.

I agree totally some games run better with an ATI than a nvidia. I belive though that the cpu is most important when gaming IMO. I played RVS with a XP 2400+ and a 5200 ultra and I could get at the most was a 120 fps on some servers thats with tweaking RVS ini settings and turning off vsync on vid card. I upgrade to a AMD 64 3000+ and my fps could reach 280 fps. I then upgrade to a 5900 and my fps got me to 300. The was really no noticable difference in graphics or gameplay between the 2 vid cards Gotta love AMD 64 :D
I would get a nvidia I hear alot of people complaining about ATI drivers beening crappy compared to nvidia's
