Im really new to graphics -- like 2 months really..... and well i started with gimp... i would just like toy around with pictures and what not for school projects and stuff and I guess gimp was great for me... but now i really want to like---- start really studying seriously and be as good as you guyz... i browsed the tuts and stuff and the outcomes are really amazing......

I allready gave photoshop a try and i was so lost---- kinda the same really when i started gimp. It is all so different. I thought it would be easier since i allready learned gimp but it was starting from zero...

The question is --- is it really worth it to use photoshop instead of gimp and starting from zero knowledge ? For making high quality graphics ... there are some gimpers out there who have works that are on par , sometimes better with photoshop but I really dunno..... ??

erm-- and to people who reply i hope i'm not being rude but it would be great if you ahd some experienced using both programs and have a good background in stuff like this ? --- i really need a serious answer cuz starting from scratch totally sux--- gona be a long hard 2 months re-learning everything

I used gimp for a year. Never got the real hang of it. It never made awesome stuff that I wanted to make. It really held me back. Then I got PS. At first, I was SOOOOOOOOO lost. I didn't get it any of it. Then I found schweet tutorials and started working hard on it and got the hang of it. Now, I LOVE IT.

Gimp isn't as great as you think it is when you're using it, once you get PS. I like PS so much better. So many more tools and possibilities. ^_^

    PS wins.
    Gimp is free

do the math. Depends on what you really care for. If you're a great artist the program won't matter as much as you might think.

     lmao so true

it just really depends wether u want to stick in and learn photoshop
took me about a year to learn most of the tools
    still loads i dont aswell
but gimp would be a good starting block to get you into designing so just practise till you get ps then yell have a slight idea what to do with it

I use Gimp, as do others like Dr. Pepsi, AvantGarde, and Infinity. We produce PS-quality work. Both are equally capable of the same thing.

Oh rly ?! AvantGarde is a gimper as well ?? wow i really love his sigs -- !! but yeah im getting photoshop next month -- The only reason i would use PS over gimp probably is because it is more popular here since piracy is practically legal --- and paying 50cents for a program is basically gaving it away.

I guess i need all the help i can get and speaking in a different program language is not the easiest way ---

No program is better. It all comes down to the hands of the beholder. As someone stated above, there are great Gimpers who produce PS quality.. Curly, Dr. Pepsi, JL Rubidox, many others as well. I will agree that PS offers more possibilities with different brush settings, filters, modes, etc, but those effects can still be recreated on Gimp. I use Gimp myself, I may not produce PS quality work as the others I listed, but I started a few months ago and I'm progressing along pretty well. ;)

    Photoshop is the leading software.

Plus you won't get anywhere in "the industry" if you don't know how to use photoshop.
