Okay 1-1.2 million credits are now gone, and nothing has changed imo. I think that the steal credit item has served it's purpose. Because members that sign up November 07+ have no idea about this item and can end up getting screwed.

I try to pm all the new members with 1500+ credit and tell them about the bank and the item. 100% of the time, they had no idea about these two things.

I honestly don't think this item should be around anymore, because it basically screws over the new members.

Let's say I am a new member and I buy 10k of credits. I send the money, and leave the credits on my account and if someone steals them. Chances are when I make a topic nothing will happen, so what's stopping me from doing a paypal claim? The only thing that could happen is a ban, but quite frankly the member already got screwed over, so chances are he won't care about a ban on this site. I mean really $40 or a ban?

If you guys still want the item added in, then you should make it more clear about the bank account and the steal credit item. Like add a new button on the menu, or edit the shop button to bank button, because the bank is more important than the shop anyways.

Or have a "My Bank Account" link here

And what do other members think of this as well?

Click the 'Shop' link at the top of the forums and then on the next page that opens up, under Addons, there's the Bank link

The item has been doing its job, it has been keeping credits idling around 2 million credits. It was over 3.5 million credits before we implemented the item, and for the last few weeks it has been keeping the credits in that range.

Its the members who determine what exactly the value of credits are, and its shown members have no desire to do that. Convince the member base to make credits worth more to the average user and well remove the item, until then, it remains.

    i say leave it.

it will on average hurt the person using it more than it would the person being stolen from. You'de have to really dislike the person you're targetting.
and it can be used to teach people NOT to be arseholes.

promotes people to NOT be idiots.

I think it should be added to the welcome pm you get when you arrive at GR?

Once it clear its personal responsabilty.

Besides, as Dem says ( hate to agree ) but somthing is only worth what some one else is willing to pay... There are market constants but it all boils down to a deal struck between buys. Most people who aim to profit its simple get a better deal then you can or believe you can get in return. Hence the reason accounts with low member numbers are bought up.

I can't tell them what credits are worth, because they don't hold the power, it's the people who sell for cash that hold the power.

If the item is still around there should be a good warning for new users about the bank and the item.

Well, you can think of the item as it's own warning - mainly because the item is called 'Steal Credits'. Everyone knows that stealing is wrong, and that it has many repercussions...And the new people who are so desperate for credits that they do something that they know they shouldn't, such as stealing from other members, aren't really the type of people we want here at GR.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood. However...

If the new user can't afford the item, chances are they won't be preyed on for their credits. Not many people are willing to spend 1.5k and risk losing a lot of credits, to get less than 1.5k...

And if they do get a lot of credits, and they get stolen...Well, they are partly to blame themselves. If they don't read up on the news in the 'Latest News' section (and I mean all the news from around the past 12 months or so), where information about this item and the bank are clearly signposted, then they can only blame themselves.

If they don't read the news or the rules, and go straight to The Marketplace to generate a load of credits, it shows what kind of member of the community that member will be. If they get their credits stolen, and then complain about 'not knowing about the bank', then tough, really. It's not like information about these features aren't displayed anywhere. Ignorance is not an excuse.

    New user that buy credits

It's there job? Thats a BS answer really it is. When I go on a forum I don't read 12 months of topics in the news area. And is the bank really that clear? The topic Bank Active is locked, doesn't that give the impression to a new user that it is closed?

Isn't GR one of the spot where people go to get some graphic related stuff done?

Wasn't the problem with credits, that it sits of people account and they do nothing with it?

Now you said people that come here and go to the market place for credits aren't welcome or are bad for the community.

Now there are many members that do what I am about to say, let's see if they ruin the community.

Now the marketplace is a very selected place, people buy from a select few for FR, not everyone will be able to sell their stuff for FR.

But Posting Right resources gives everyone an equal chance to sell their stuff. Because they are looking for some quality but they mainly want quantity for their site. Now these so called members that go to the marketplace, buy huge chunks of credit and then give out them to the community. Is that bad? A lot of members do this but the most notable one is Serafeem

Or another member LimpingLogan, buys a ton of credits from that people the have chunks of credits that do nothing with them. Limping buys them and then holds contests. This gives everyone a chance to win some credits.

Are these type of members bad for the community? Or are they the only members on this site that can give out credits equally?

    ___

One question to what will you guys do if this does happen

A new member buys credits, from a member then those credits get stolen by another member. So the new user does a paypal claim and gets his money back. What exactly will you do? Ban the new member? And not refund the person who sold him the credits because technically the guys who stole it did it fair and square? Or refund the member and now the person who stole the credits is out 1500 credits.

I see where you may be coming from .c1, a new member would probably not have a clear understanding of what the item is about. I'm going to have to disagree with you Alex, if I was a new member of the forum, I wouldn't read each and every single topic in the "Latest News" section, there are way too many topics in there! However, I have an alternative solution to the problem. Isn't there a topic where once members register, they are propted to go into an "Introduction" section of the forum where all rules of Gamerenders are listed? One of the rules should clearly state that Gamerenders takes no responsibility for credits lost in your account due to the "Steal money Item." For more information, click the link below. (And the link of the "Steal money" topic will be placed there.) That link should state that the only way to avoid your credits from being stolen is to open a bank account. (And than place a link to the location of the bank.)

One of the rules in Gamerenders is that not knowing the rules of the forum, is no excuse to break them. Therefore, if you add that statement to the rules, the problem should be solved. Ignorance is no excuse to break the rules as long as it is stated in the rules section of the forum, you cannot expect a new member to go through each and every single old topic in the "Latest News" section - that's ridiculous.

I'll now discuss the main topic at hand - the "Steal money item." It may seem like it has had close to no effect in regards to increasing the market value of the credit, but the truth is that quite a bit of credits have been removed from the system. (Particularly more at the beginning of its release.) However, it may seem like the credit is still remaining and it's low value because members CHOOSE to sell their credits at such a low price.
I remember I made a post, two summer's ago (before this item was introduced) that if all members got together and decided to sell their credits at the 200:1 ratio, than the price of credits would dramatically increase. Did anybody listen to me? Of course not. There will ALWAYS be members in this forum that will be desperate to sell their credits, thus, they will sell credits at dramatically low rates such as the 350:1 ratio.)
No matter how many credits are being removed from the system, if the users of Gamerenders decide to disregard the value of the credit and choose to make it have such a low value, it WILL have a low market value. Simple as that. So don't blame the item for not serving it's purpose. It served its purpose - which was the purpose to eliminate as many credits from the system as possible. Now it is up to the users to notice that and say: "Hey, if so many credits have been eliminated from the system, than the value of the credit is suppose to increase (based on supply and demand). How come I am seling my credits at such a low rate? I should change it!"

If all members of Gamerenders had that frame of mind, we wouldn't have this issue.
That's just my two cents on the topic.

The first paragraph is good, and if it was to happen it should be made clear not a whole bunch of white text. Highlight and Bold the important stuff. Even what ikky said on some forums they send members pm's when they first login on about the rules and important info.

Sniper I was gonna say what you said in the second paragraph about the ignorance is no excuse, but was saving it.

http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php...p;f=1&id=13 the rules of GR, it's every members job to know them right

Steal Credit item and Bank isn't mention there at all, they may not be rules but the topics are important enough to be mentioned

And sniper I know what you mean, I used to say that the people with the credits had the power, because the no cash rule made it that they can sell their credits for however much they want. But it's seems that it will never sink in with the people that sell credits, so know the people with cash have the power. And credits aren't in demand right now.

I don't really want to argue over something such as a quick-access 'Bank Button' (which I admit would be rather useful to a lot of members), however, I feel inclined to...Mainly because of this remark:

    *Rolls eyes*

    [/contradiction]

It's there job? Thats a BS answer really it is. When I go on a forum I don't read 12 months of topics in the news area. And is the bank really that clear? The topic Bank Active is locked, doesn't that give the impression to a new user that it is closed?[/b][/quote]

Did I say it was their job?

The fact that information about the bank is still on the first page of the 'Latest News' shows that there isn't that much to read/get through. If a new user uses their initiative, they'd read the topic, find out how to access their bank account, and be done with it. They'd also notice that after a certain amount of time, the majority of all of the topics in the 'Latest News' section are closed. Does that mean the downtimes never happened? Does that mean the new mods being congratulated on their promotions are now de-modded?

Thinking that lock = not being used anymore is a very weak point. The announcements are locked...The rules are locked. See?

I was referring to members who join, make credits, sell them off for a quick profit, and then leave.

Off the mark, I can name around 4 members who use their credits like you described...And you already named 2 of them. You have a valid point, yes, but the fact is that most new members who think they're 'really good' at sig making go straight to the Marketplace with high prices, expecting people to buy instantly because it's the current 'style'.

I'd just like to raise the point that normally, PP instantly close claims over money such as 'credits' - they see it more of the forum's/site's problem than theirs.

If the member selling the credits realises that the member they are trading with is new, they could use instinct and warn them about using the bank to keep them safe.

It's practically a free-for-all - if those credits get stolen, touch luck to the new member. If the new member has a valid reason as to why they didn't use the bank (which, they wouldn't, due to there still being information about it on the forum), we could refund them from the thief, and if feeling generous, give the thief 1.5k back out of our own pockets. If the new member takes their money back from the original transaction through PP, then yes, they will be banned.

Edit: Sniper - Yeah, I know it's quite a far-cry to say that a user will read through all the 'Latest News'...I realise that there is a lot, and that they are unlikely to read them, but that doesn't mean they have that as an excuse for not knowing. Whether you read it or not, the information is still there, and again (and as you also said), ignorance is not an excuse.

I'll bring 'implementation of bank information' up to the staff. =]
