    Too much light.

    Try some greadient maps.

    Try doing a full tag tut... do a few of them to pick up the basics.

    You need some contrasting effects or colors in there.

    v3 is the most fundamentally sound, however, I would do a few tutorials all the way through to pick up some techniques and ideas on lighting, colors, effects, etc.
