So I know the 360 will play .avi's from flash drives and the like, but is there any way to copy movies to the drive itself? I've google this up and down and can't seem to find anything. Am I missing something here or can I REALLY not copy movies to the hdd? Because this Elite is looking a lot less enticing if I can't...
From what I know, I think the only movies you can get on your Xbox HDD are ones you download from the marketplace... And those are DRMed. Why don't you just make yourself data DVD's? That's what I do, and it plays most of them. (Grant it that most of the files I have are not supported) If they're not playable, I just use a VGA cable to hook my TV up to my computer. (You can always try a PS3... If you don't have the Elite, already)
If you have a home network you can stream the movies from your computer to your 360; that's what I do. You can also play them from a data DVD or a flash drive but as far as copying them, I'm not so sure. You can copy movies to the PS3 though and it plays most formats now, including DIVX.
hm... well this is all very interesting. and for those who asked, yeah, I already bought the elite. I was just under the impression when I bought it that the extra hard drive space had to be used for SOMETHING. it would take some time (and money) to fill it with nothing but game demos and MS content. okay, so since streaming stuff is basically my only option, does anyone know how it performs under wi-fi? I don't own the 360 wireless adapter so I have no way of knowing... as a side note, the new AppleTV is looking better and better...
I have a wired network so I'm not really sure but it performs well the way I have it set up. I wouldn't think that a wireless network would differ much though, since it only has to buffer a portion of the video before it starts playing.
I have mine wireless and I use a program called TVersity (http://tversity.com/home). It works really good. I use to have my xbox wired and it works just as good wireless.
