gonna get my dad to buy a HDTV what are the important things to look for? any reccomendations? lookin for 45+ inch and we don't have much luck with sony tvs
contrast the higher the better and reaction time are something to be checked also if it is hd ready or full hd
full hd 1080p resolution hd ready 768p resolution full hd has a better quality but is more expensive then hd ready i'm waiting to buy a new tv until the laser comes out. better quality then lcd and plasma (even full hd) and a lower price
If you do decide to buy now.. DO NOT GET A PLASMA.. They are horibble, and on most of them, the viewing angle is like 4 degress...lol LCD is the way to go, also with LCD, you don't have to worry about burn-in from Video games...
yea, plasmas are horrible.. but lcd's get dead/stuck pixels. Dlps are pretty good and cheap. But they dont last long.. theres always a plus, and a minus to everything
The LCD's will only get dead pixels if you buy a low quality one.. Like those ones from Wal-mart. Also, dead pixels are usually covered under manufacturer's warranty.
dead pixels? is that the one that happens if you accidentally scratch the screen with a coin or something?
No, a dead pixel is where it is literally, dead. It doesn't show color. Think of it as "turned off". Stuck pixels are when it's stuck a certain color. You can't fix either of them. They're mainly a bigger problem for computer monitors rather then TV's. When you're sitting 5-10 feet away from your TV, you won't be able to notice them. But when you're a few feet away from your monitor, you may notice them. Some things to look for in an HD TV: - Higher contrast ratio, the better - Lower response time, the better - Smaller pixel pitch, the better I've heard to stay away from Sony LCD's. They seem to die soon after the warranty expires. It may just be rumor, though.
does the screen get distorted when you sit like 5 feet away from it? because i like to sit close to the tv heh
When i bought both of my 48 inch Plasma's i was told that quality was the same across Most of the brands apart from sony and samsung. You'll find if you buy one of those chinese makes or something that sounds like a car, they often have the same stuff but a different cover, also you'll find after a few years you'll get a degrade in quality... the only thing i could suggest you go is go for a samsung really, really nice picture quality. one other tip dont rely on the picture you see on the tv in store, they use signal boosters etc to make the pictures look crisp.. but when you get it home it will be far from it =] get one with HDMI output too it's nice for the 360
Don't buy from a big store, look around for smaller local shops, you can usually get a decent one for a lot cheaper. I got a 32" full HD "Teco" from a local shop for £320, and its no different to any other HDTVs I've seen.
signal boosters. huh. i knew they were up to something. HDMI for the 360. forgot to mention that since one of the main reasons of me wanting a hdtv is to use it with my 360. thanks for mentioning that there's nothing but big stores over here........
