finally got sick of my 4 year old dell and decide to build a pc myself for a change... so i wondering if anyone can help with some hardware choice... the budget is around $1300~$1500 (preferably with OEM xp ---) i am actually from Australia so i can't order from newegg... so i will provide with a list of parts price for my local computer store.. link : http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf i am actually thinking of making this a gaming machine... so yea  thanks for all the help!! edit: edit to add parts price link
Well, I cant be bothered looking for Aus prices, but i'll help you out. Either a Q6600 or an E8200 depending on whether you do a lot of video encoding or not. An 8800GT or GTS (G92) 2gig of DDR2 RAM A decent P35 chipset motherboard. If you're looking to spend quite high, consider swapping out the CPU for a Q9450, or the 8800 for an AMD Ati HD3870x2. There isn't a huge amount of margin for error.
if you read the post, he lives in australian. US price prices in USD * 140% = AUD prices in AU. I'll try and sort together a rough list when i get done with school/work, I'm studying right now.
Try not to buy from Australian stores, chances are the prices will be double the price in the US. I think www.tigerdirect.com ship to Australia, try looking there.
@ Omega i will try and have a look around tigerdirect about shipment to Australia then... @ xlink hope to see the list soon
First of all, Australia's prices for PC hardware is actually very good. Well, compared to New Zealand, which is a few hours flight away, but with insanely higher prices. I'd recommend not buying from US stores unless you have a person who is located in the US that can recieve and send you the goods, as international freight on this stuff easily makes up the price difference.
@ gonezorz - true... i checked the shipment and stuff... shipment takes around 10 days or more for international order + the shipment is calculated according to the weight of the cargo... and also i can change the parts if anythings goes wrong ^_^
CPU e4400(if you're willing to overclock, or e6550, or e6750) 2GB RAM p35 based board 9600GT video card. high quality 400W-500W Power supply case $50-100AUD or more harddrive DVD burner also a quick question, do you need a monitor? speakers etc.
would be great to have the other stuff like monitor etc... but it seems like my budget is a little tight on a gaming pc = =''
You can always check www.pricespy.com.au for some pricing, however, the site has no guarantee of whether or not e-tailers are safe to trade with.
actually i just put up a short list of items from what u recommended... Asus P3K --- EPU -- $169 E6550 -- $204 2g-800 A-DATA -- $50 512mb 9600GT Asus -- $259 Asus lightscribe 20x -- $39 Coolermaster Extreme 600W -- $87 Seagate SATA 500gb -- $156 so far this list is $956... there is also some alternatives for mobo and graphic card from gigabyte like : 512mb 9600GT Gigabyte -- $249 Gigabyte EP35-DS3 -- $139 which will make the sub total to $916 i am also planing to get a Proview FP2226 22" monitor for $293 and logitech x530 5.1 for $75 and maybe a Logitech LX710 for $80, which brings the grand total to $1364 without a case (with gigabyte configuration... $1404 with Asus) = ='' so should i change some parts to lower the budget?
Don't get a 9600. With that budget, you can easily afford an 8800GTS G92. It's better than the 8800GT and the 9600.
