I've noticed a lot members speak out about their personal opinions during results times of sotws [i dont go in LAotM very often so I don't know how common it is there] (thinking about recent one, which prompted the suggestion). My suggestion is to make voting for competitions done in a public post thats available to all members with a certain number of posts (don't want to think anyone would, but thats just to avoid people making multiple logins and dual voting etc.). and to avoid flaming etc. it could be you just have all the tags in the first post with a number next to them, and all you do is post the number for the tag you want your vote to go to.

Anyways, an alternative suggestion would be to have this, but then also have the normal voting system (its moderators/admins [staff] who do the voting normally right?) count as a larger number of votes, you know... like.... example: member vote= 1 count, mod vote= 1 1/2 count, admin= 2 count ...
And rules such as, no voting for your own piece could be added, but someone would have to go through each individual post and check the numbers to make sure the voter's entry number didnt match his vote number. (in other words, i think voting for your own would make more sense, but it would fall on the choice of the voter to vote for what he/she feels is best, according to theme)

Once again, this is just a suggestion. In my opinion, this could be fair, but easily manageable by the staff, and would also reduce the amount of negative post-vote discussion on results. So please consider the idea, or some variation thereof, and let me know what you think ^_^ [change isn't necessary, but is an option to be considered]

I like the idea, but the real reason why I'm posting is to say gj on getting 1337 posts. ^^ thought that was cool. Don't post anymore, and you'll be good. :D

I totally suport you. since some mods etc arent that active these days, dont do so much gfx anymore or they just dont have enough time then it would be the best idea to let ppl vote like on other sites. The good things gonna be: the results wont delay, people cant complain, sotw will get more popular, mods can do something else with their time and so on.

Again I'm going to put this out, voters need to know a thing or two about graphics.

This is not prompted by anything any one person said, I thought this would be something good to consider judging by the fact that MANY people have made comments that imply want for change in voting methods.

    Oof?
At this moment, as far as my knowledge goes we have no desire to revert to this system which we did used to use.

    There's a few reasons.

With Admin/Mod voting it GREATLY reduces the chance of mass-biased voting, there's always an "in" artist on GR and they'll win regardless of quality if the tag is put up to public voting. We've seen this many times in the past.

Secondly, as mentioned, a lot of GR are going to go for the more "Trendwhore" styles, or alternatively pick something Original but of low quality. At the end of the day, all of the staff have been here for a long time, with a few of us over 3 years. We've seen the changes etc. that GR has gone through and know what we're talking about when it comes to SOTW voting.

Granted, some members can make the same claim too, but how many are new?.

I am 50/50 on this topic.

As Broken said, there are issues like bias voting, current style, cheating votes, and more to consider. Those are actually significant and must be taken account of.
Some of these problems can be taken care of, but I don't know...

If needed, perhaps having a separate voting team?

Like I said in the last sotw results, you guys need a special voting group consisting of active GR artists that have been doing graphics for a while.

Biased you say? I am 100% positive that we have completely unbiased people on this forum that have more knowledge on the topic of graphics and appeal then the current voting staff. Don't take that as offense or an insult. I am merely being frank.

It doesn't matter who has been here how long.We need voters that are actually active within the community itself, not behind the scene admins that don't make graphics anymore. Need examples? Ask.

the only thing bad about the voting now is that not all the staff votes. if every staff member voted every week then i would be happy

^^^^ see thats the kind of thing I think we should know about xD I'd probably be happier with a larger number of votes in general as well, why not just make it mandatory to vote for staff? and if thats too much to ask for I think we should revert to something like my idea (extreme) or something not quite as extreme like buccaneers suggestion, just a seperate group, of VOTERS, who could be chosen by the staff (adding my own ideas now here) or by the community or both, then it could be THEIR job to vote on competitions every week. But you'd probably want people experienced with different sections, like pulse, kennedy, you bandits, for signatures, just as an example, but then have different experts from the photography sections or Large Art sections be part of the voting for those areas.

another spur of the moment brainstorm would be to just have judges, set people who come together once a week/month whenever a competition ends and discusses based on their expertise who they think should recieve the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards. then its always people who (if chosen well) would have a good background and respected among the community, so no much would be raised against the final call in the ways of an argument :/

thinking outloud again, food for thought

..and with a separate voting team, those on the team would not be allowed to participate in the art style category they judge.

Saying, we would need to find the correct people for the team.

yea it'd have to be people willing to not participate and who would be fairly un-biased, which in retro-spec would be pretty difficult

there are plenty of people on GR that know what they are doing, and it would be more accurate than the current staff voting..
