I have a HP pc, that has a sata hard drive with vista. I want to dual boot or just have xp there. but when i do try to install, i get a error saying that microsoft installer cant detect a hard drive. Im guessing its because of sata.. I tried to get the drivers or whateverr from HP but htey say they dont have them. How else can i get XP into that pc. If i need to buy something, tell me PLEASE!!!! its a laptop btw, HP with sata drive
I've had this problem before. You can try to download the drivers from HP and put them on a floppy disc and then do the F6 when you install windows. Another way that might be easier is to go to http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ download the driver pack for mass storage and then download the base and slipstream them into your XP disc. That's what I did and it worked great.
I called HP, those ------s said they dont have the drivers, or anything like that but said our special squad can help you but for a small fee $$ so i said gtho
Just do what I said... Go to http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ and download the mass storage driver pack and the base pack Then run the base pack The base pack should ask for your XP cd and the driver packs. It will then create a new ISO that you can burn to a CD and install it from there.
Hmm, that's why you shouldn't purchase computers from proprietary comapanies like, Dell or HP....custom machines are the way to go, that way you know exactly what you are getting, exactly what is compatible and exactly what you need.
XP has no native support for SATA drives. you have to create an installer with SATA drivers or just search for an installer with SATA drivers included already. i would tell you more details but forum rules forbid it. google though should he you a lot. and how the hell do you customise a laptop......
Ok, Well, I do have customized pcs i build myself, but this is a laptop, and its not mine, its a friends im just trying to fix. I downloaded the mass storage drivers, and i made a ISO using another program using those drivers. Hope they work.. Thanks for the help guys
