Whats the different between stocks and renders?

In this signature, is that consider a render? or a stock?

Stock: An image such as a wallpaper
Render: An extraction from a wallpaper

A stock is just a render with its background

Couldn't tell unless we had the PSD.. Basically if its a render, its cut out from its background. A stock is like a wallpaper.

As you can see, a render's got a transparent background. A stock doesn't.

No, a render has a transparent background, and is taken from a stock. Masking is a different technique altogether, and can be used on renders.
