you can't directly compare the two cards since they are of different architectures. example given, by those standards a 3.0Ghz pentium D would be on par witha 3Ghz Core 2 duo. In the real world the c2d is a better performer. There are inefficiencies and alot of things which affect card performance. I'll say this, in terms of theoretical performance, the 3800s win - HARDCORE. In real world instances, the 8800s come out on top usually by around 10-30% depending. and I'll say this, there is a tremendous difference between each architecture, and while they are similar in nature, they are not directly comparable and both scale differently under different circumstances. FYI nVIdia launches a newhighend card in a month... which means mad price drops. reemphasis on fanboyism is stupid. Go with whatever is the best bang/$. It can be called "Piece of ---- 666 ultra cruddy video card" and if it performed well for the price I'd still buy it.
for a lot of people yes. for me, no. let's put it this way. I was WAY excited for R600(2900XT) when it was being launched, but ended up with G80. I'm fairly Excited For R700 and 9800GX2. I'm excited that intel is entering the graphics market in around a years time. I LIKE COMPETITION. The more kickass products on the market the better ---- I get for less $$$
explain why. explain why in pretty much every scenario video cards with nVidia chipsets prevail over cards of comparable cost by ATi.
I should also be interesting considering Intel bought that physics company a while back and plans to incorporate them into the graphics cards. They are also supposed to be kick ass compared to the other cards and honestly with intels new success and high preformace from the core 2s i believe it and can't wait. I think ATI/AMD is gonna be out of business one intel and nvidia take over the graphics market. (nvidia also recently bought a physics company to incorparate into their graphics cards)
well, we'll see. last time intel tried their hands at a highend graphcis card they failed HARDCORE. and yes, Intel bought Havok, nVidia bough AEGIA. I'm hoping the whole GPGPU concept evolves a lot more.
I don't necessarily classify myself as a "fanboy" of Nvidia, I just tend to like their products more, but again, I am weird and I like the aesthetics of their products (mostly thanks to XFX) As far as the competition thing goes, I agree wholeheartedly, more competetion = cheaper kickass ----. Which = happy me. For all intents and purposes of this thread, it is easier to tell them to pick which one THEY like more, simply because, getting information from you or myself is not going to educate them anymore than they have already been educated. Which in some cases, is minimal. So, for the people willing to learn, try both products. For example, purchase an ATI card and run it until you have the money to either build a new machine, or to place a new card in a different machine, and make that one Nvidia. For those not willing to learn, become a fanboy.
here comes the fan boys... pretty soon this is going to become a flame now i see why i left this awfull site
No one has made anything even close to a fanboy-esque comment, other than ilovebeans, and clearly, there are enough people on here that are competent in this field to shoot down fanboyism with a simple, "why?" Why do you think this company is the best and the others suck? or is it just something you heard once on a TV show and you now live by? This site is great, for the most part, sure some of the people are total jackasses or complete retards, but you are going to run into that in ANY society. I don't care where you are from. Without stupid people, we would be breeding elitism, and that's bad... Everyone likes to feel smart, and without the stupid people, you can't really do that, now can you?
print your own sticker, it's not that hard. Also if you water cool it doesn't matter what the stock graphics look like since the stock cooler won't be used. will say though, black PCB>red PCB but still that's the last thing I think about for the most part there hasn't been that much fanboyism. Also, I implore you to take a look at some of your own posts, EG: The 2600XT keeps up with the 8800GTS(well duh in CSS or HL1 it would since those games aren't demmanding)
true.....aesthetics come natural to me, I am classifiably artistic, and a graphics whore. I have used both ATI and Nvidia products, and all around, I have had a better experience with nVidia....still, this is NOT to say one is better than the other, because as you and I both agreed on, it is extrememly difficult to contrast things with little to no similarities.... IE: I like tigers better than elephants.....BECAUSE!
