Everyone in the world thinks they can do web design??

It's really kind of irritating. Now, I am not saying I am some sort of godly web design master, but come on, seriously....you can tell when things suck...and if you can't, that's just another reason why YOU CAN'T DO WEB DESIGN.
I am betting that after I post this 50 people are going to reply, telling me I am such a jackass, and that people can learn to be good designers if they keep working at it....that's bull----...You can either do it or you can't...Design requires a certain eye for art in general...and a lot of people that I have seen, just don't have it.....

What is especially irritating is when they post something they think it's some godly work of art, and it clearly isn't, and they wouldn't even bother to take advice from someone who knows what they are doing. (not necessarily me)...

I don't think you're a (I will never use unhealthy language) at all. I totally agree with that idea. You don't change style much in your life. Like with some people, they're obsessed with grunge. Other people like simple, bubbly and boxy designs. But you never really say "I think I'm going to look at things a different way. I'm going to look at everything as blah blah blah." I can't really explain it, but I know what you mean.

    haha "unhealthy language"

don't think I've ever heard it referred to as that before.....lol..

But, I am glad you see my point, it's hard to look at someone seriously and give them true helpful, constructive criticism, when they post BS like some of the stuff I have seen in the web design section. I think I want to become like the Simon Cowel of Game Renders, but I don't want to make people cry....lol

Well, so far by my discussions with you, you are an excellent debater and critique. So people will most likely follow you, trust you and respect you. That's why you could be a Simon and not be hated. ^_^

jesus. what is this? the 19th century? etiquette on a forum? peeshaw!

This idea reminds me of this one guy who posted a fair amount of GreyCobra. He was terrible at design. He just had NO sense of composition. I swear he must have been blind. Every single one of his renders (and he always used bad comic book cut outs) was stretched in some direction, so we would always tell him "hold shift next time you resize". we tried to be nice, but it just got to the point where we couldnt be nice anymore. we just stopped replying to his topics. he had no aesthetic eye.

but i think im the opposite example. Personally, i think i have a very good sense of aesthetics. i can judge contrast/lighting/hue/etc really well (hell. its my job). but the thing is, i dont have time to develop mad skillz.

the guy had no eye and a fair amount of experience, and i have a good eye, but not enough experience.

(thats confusing. to clarify, i just agreed with you in a roundabout way.)

I am a bit more deep than your simple forum poster, I could clearly see that you were agreeing with me...lol.....no clarification needed. For future reference, if you talk to me, assume I know what you mean...it will save you time.....haha...

I have also noticed, so far, that people who disagree with me aren't posting here....which is a good thing....maybe I was intimidating..haha....

Erasmus once said in his "On the education of Children" that there are three conditions which define becoming a man. Nature, Training, and Practice. Two conditions with out the other will lead to failure. This shows that even with the best natural ability, you still need education and practice in order to be the best person you can be. I agree that some people do have the natural ability but I believe it more or less can be taught.

s'good way to put it. you need aptitude, you need to harness that aptitude and learn to use it, and you need to go out in the real world and practice what you learned in order to succeed.

Yah, kind of like that episode of batman where Peter Griffin shot Morpheus who proceeded to yell at Obi One Kenobi. Wait a second... where does batman come in? Wait, what am I even talking about? Oh yah... I totally agree. Everyone has the capability to be an artist, but even those who get years of lessons sometimes choose not to put their heart into it; to make it what it is truly supposed to be. They just can't develop the "eye" for art.

Exactly. It's quite simple really to me. There are those in my opinion who are born with talent, but everyone can develop a certain skill. It just takes practice. Odds are if you don't have a natural talent for something, but you work very hard, you're at least going to be very good at it. You may not be the best, but you'll at least be good.

The simple answer as to why most people suck at webdesign - they try to hard. Web designs (good ones) should be visually appealing, flowing, easy to view (not a bunch of fancy graphical things to distract you), and the big part - easily changed/updated. Minimalism is starting to creep its way into web 2.0 as well.

I really hate the term "Web 2.0". It's quite ridiculous, because there was never such a thing as "Web 1.0". Clients will ask me all the time for a "Web 2.0" design, which is rather bothersome, because generally they have no idea what it means, nor what is included in a "2.0" design. As far as minimalism goes, I agree wholeheartedly, it is NOT neceesary for the site to be overly flashy or to have gradients on every goddam box or line on it.

The other thing is, I am sick of people opening photoshop and immediately thinking they are some sort of photoshop jesus...lol....Most of the full template designs that I have seen people create in photoshop as of late are horrible! Especially the ones that would most definitely stretch and misalign if you put too much content in them...

CSS and DIV layouts are the way to go...no doubt about it...
