I was looking around, I heard around, friends have told me, I've figured from many sources that, for just about anyone you talk to, Windows Vista is hated. People like me who got it pre-installed with their computer, you have to buy a copy of XP so you can downgrade. I was so disappointed with Vista. The first time I used it I was like "Whoa, cool," but after a couple months of slow performance, bad internet, missing drivers and plugins and ddl files... I hated it so very much. In order to run Vista, top of the line parts are required. Many manufacturers (such as the manufacturers of my laptop) do not realize how much power Vista actually needs. I saw on some forums how almost everyone with Everex laptops are downgrading to XP because they're sick of the worst possible performance. A friend of mine was actually willing to upgrade his pc, spending hundreds on new parts, just to run Vista. Now that they're making games and things that only run on Vista... I don't know what to do. It truly sucks.

So how about you guys? Downgrading much?

I still don't understand why Vista is hated so much....people are not using it properly....

    Here's the issue:

Vista is being OEM marketed to manufacturers such as Dell and HP/Compaq and those other name brand BS companies. That's great, but the problem is, they are installing Vista on the WRONG MACHINES. All of these companies are putting vista on machines that aren't designed to handle it, in the same turn, Microsoft put VERY low spec requirements on the packaging, so it would sell. People are experiencing vista on machines that are incapable of running it properly. There is NOTHING wrong with vista, it's more secure, it's pretty, and, all those software compatability issues usually have workarounds. As far as hardware incompatabilites, GET NEW ------ING HARDWARE and you won't have that problem. Oh, and don't even bring up the whole, "Why does it have to prompt me every time I do something?" because it knows you are computer illiterate because you weren't smart enough to turn the UAC off....It's protecting your computer from your retarded self, so microsoft doesn't get 5000 phone calls with users saying, " I think there is something wrong with my operating system, I was looking at porn, and now my computer won't boot"

Again, there is NOTHING WRONG WITH VISTA, it works absolutely fine for me.

BTW, you have slow performance, because you bough a computer with Vista pre-installed....just FYI...

    cost of XP $130
    cost of 2GB RAM $30

    just buy more RAM.

here is my advice, take your vista disc and reinstall vista and do away with all the bull---- Dell and HP preinstall on systems. Then do a few tweets here and there. driver performance while worse than XP is still comparable.

...lol. Thanks for the comment. But I know Vista is OK. But XP is still better. Not because of performance and stuff, but because it can handle more. You try to install an old program or game on Vista and it won't let you because it's missing some... thing... I don't know what it is it needs, but whatever. I looked for the files it was missing, installed a couple things, and no cures. In truth, if I had a machine that could handle it, I'd use Vista and be happy with it. But I'm just mad because of the stupid manufacturers of the hardware. And as for those permissions issues, who cares about the stupid people who crash their computers from downloading warez and porn and things. It's common sense to just be legal... and... get a girlfriend (lol). Vista should just not have the permission thing. For people who actually know what they're doing should have it simple.

    2GB laptop ram=$40-$50.
Anyway, lol, my dad has so many computers he had an extra copy of XP I could use anyway. But I shouldn't have to buy more ram for my laptop. Its the manufacturer's fault and I shouldn't have to deal with it. They should. But obviously they aren't going to do anything.

The "permission thing" is, like I said, to save their asses, it's to keep both microsoft and their subcontracted companies from getting calls from old people saying, "I only use it to check my email and click on some of those cute little ad things that show up on the side of the page" you know?

XP is "better" because it has had roughly 6 years, to GET better.......

when XP first came out, everyone was pissed off because it sucked.....

Vista is doing the same thing, I just think Vista is getting TOO much of a bad Rep. because of bad sales and bad marketing.

Just a tip, If you get tired of UAC, you can turn it off using MSCONFIG.

    Run > MSCONFIG.EXE

click the last tab, and then, there, there is a script that will turn it off.

Wow, dude. Awesome man, awesome. I know what you mean. I suppose Vista just needs some time. And thanks for the UAC tip. How did you find that out?

By exploring the operating system, and not just looking at the surface of it.....

People need to USE their OS and not just use it. They need to learn how to break it, so they can learn how to fix it as well...The funny thing about computer's is, they are very hardy pieces of equipment, there is not much you can do to them to make them not work permanently, people treat their operating system like it's hardware......

Lol, ok. I'm pretty good with computers but not very experienced at digging deep into the OS.

It's ok, at least you are not the kind of person that calls tech support because you got a virus from a porn site....lol

I dont like the memory load Vista uses, if I use MS Word once, it will load the entire suite into memory thinking I will use later(and I wont).
If I play one game, it will load the rest into memory in case I get bored and want to change games.

I do not like the interface at all, even the 'classic' interface is all wrong.

I have XP ---, all animations disabled, and thats all vista is, transitions, transparencies and animations, ALL of which hog memory.
I did not like having to wait for my computer to open because of a dang animation, YES I know they can be disabled, but its by default in the first place.

The more RAM you have, the more it hogs. A computer with 1g RAM will have around 6-800k used by windows itself, thats not including programs your using atm. If you have 2g RAM, vista will hog 1500k in RAM. As a gaming platform, its horrible.
Like xlink said, needing the newest parts that are Dx10 compatible, I dont play any games that require Dx10, and I cant afford these new 'vista' supported cards.
Lack of drivers, months after its release, this is STILL and issue, some parts simply dont work, even though they say 'vista supported'.
Some older games, simply, dont work. There is no reason why, they just dont work.

I saw a simple java based game on vista and it looked totally corrupted, then saw the same game on a XP base computer and it looked perfect. Im talking java based game here, not a heavy game like Halo or Halflife 2.

Im gonna throw this out, a poll done by a news channel here of all the local businesses came back as.
30% said they would never upgrade
15% said they would only upgrade if software required
5% said they had tried and due to lack of support, switched back to XP.
49% said they would switch, with a 1% margin of error.

Nearly 50% of businesses polled did not like vista, thats not even home users like me.

I agree with some things you said, obviously, because I had previously stated them. But thanks for your thoughts on the issue.

This is an absolute load of crap....the OS doesn't use MORE memory just because you have it....It uses what it needs and no more. The interface thing, is a personal issue that you need to get over. if you don't like the interface, go have fun with linux....Judging by your Avatar, it seems that is where you belong anyway.

"I have XP ---, all animations disabled, and thats all vista is, transitions, transparencies and animations, ALL of which hog memory."

Who cares, if you have the right amount, you don't need to worry about it.... The application that runs the interface in Vista, uses roughly 26k Kb of memory....thats about 24megs...There is no reason your computer should have any issues like that, unless if course you have a total of 64Mb of Ram, which I don't think is possible anymore...

Used under the PROPER circumstances, Vista WILL run flawlessly.

I have a couple of computers and different operating installed on each one. I used to use vista on my main PC but had to go back to XP. It was great for the first 2 months or so but then it got real buggy. It just seems like alot of programs still don't support it fully. I reinstalled and started fresh, then a little while later same thing.

Now Im running XP on my main computer but still have vista on my laptop (doesn't use as many programs) and im hopeful SP3 is as good as they say for XP and that SP1 is fixes alot of the bugs in vista.

Oh and BTW to you can also disable the UAC from the User Accounts console from the Control Panel. But then be sure to set the Security Center to stop bugging you about it being disable.

Thats just wrong. Have you ever heard of services?? That's why theres program that let you tweak your system to disable the 'programs' in the background that you don't use and free up resources.

    Should be

Cost of downgrading to XP: $0

You can downgrade to XP for free. You don't have to pay (as long as you have vista business or ultimate i believe).
