    As you know, there are many different forum types out there, the most common being phpBB (free), Invision Power Board, and vBulletin (BuF).

    And then there is Simple Machines Forum - an excellent, free forum program made by the guys over at http://www.simplemachines.org/

    It combines the best aspects of phpBB, IPB, and vBulletin, putting them all together in a tiny package that is very easy to set up and administer. For example - the entire forum software is less than 5 mb - that's all you need to upload to your webspace. After uploading everything, you just have to run one install.php file and you can have it set up in literally less than 30 minutes (took me around 10).

    All you need is space, bandwidth, along with the latest version of PHP installed and access to your MySQL databases.

    SMF is a very great forum...hence why I just set it up on my site today [​IMG]

    You can download the software (tiny 2 mb zip package) from their site, http://www.simplemachines.org/

    This is not a place to advertise my forums (I doubt any of you will sign up..though I'd appreciate it) but more to show the SMF forum. SMF is completely awesome and free..can't go wrong, eh? :)

    if you visit the site and forums, you'll be able to find some :)

    It also comes with 2 though, a default and a classic. There are plenty of mods for the forums available at the site, also :) (like shoutbox and arcade)

    If any of you haven even been into fantastico it's sitting right there, and ya i've known about SMF for quite a while now.

    Omg compared to IPB this sucks, theres hardly any skins/mods for it either...and u say setup time is 30 mins? i can do IPB in 5.

    it took me 10. including uploading :rolleyes:


    And there are an assload of skins and mods out. Hundreds of mods, and I just finished installed 3 new skins (out of hundreds also). Retard, whoever said there were "practically none"

    This is a very good find. Took a quick look through the mods, etc. and they have a shop mod and a ton of other stuff. Thx for hookin' us up with this
