did read this whole thread but alot of times in battles(such as me and pulse)the people who vote for the most eye catching tag are inexperienced. so you really cant blame them. ive tried realism and i think its great. but you should expect to have some downer comments about it because the point of realism is to make it look real, and people dont care much for real. they want excited visual and vivid stuff.
nothing wrong with realism at all, i use it alot too but you cant really do much.

I pretty much made this topic in hope to get those people to view this. Hopefully they will realize that realism takes a lot of effort, if not more then when you make a "standard" tag.

agreed, because you have to worry about the whole sig rather then blending a render and making a surreal bg.

Still a WIP but at this stage I want you to guess how many layers that is.

    oh MAN

oh MAN oh MAN oh MAN

i have been WAITING for someone to get around to posting this type of topic

oh MAN i've got stuff to say

    *prepares to vent*

i've ALWAYS been a fan of realism in sigs, and while i've had my various effect-driven styles, my main love is realism. now, in GIMP, i've gotten enough proficiency that many of the realistic tags i've made are actually from scratch - no stocks, no renders, i start out with a bare canvas. invariably, people say they lack "effects" and then discount the amount of work that goes into them.

these tags were made completely from scratch in GIMP:

yes, even this one, no 3D programs, just GIMP
    [IMG]

comments i got on each: needs more effects.

it's infuriating, but i try to be nice to people, so i point out that it's defaults from scratch...which doesn't help change their minds.

i've also made plenty of signatures that have a render, but the BG is made from scratch myself:

[IMG] everything that's not samus is stuff i did

then, we have the tags i've made where the effort is in stock manipulation and composition, not effects.

[IMG] BG for this one is 4 different stocks

[IMG] 3 different stocks for the BG, with extra renders added and blended

[IMG] one stock, obviously heavily modified

[IMG] again, focused on text and composition

for all of those sigs, i've received comments like "so what did you do?" or "it's just so plain, put a c4d in there"

i'm really really happy to see that attitude change. :D

im gonna take a guess at 12 since its the first no i thought of lol, inc adjustments etc..

@Pepsi that stuff is awesome for gimp i like the hulk, the ff's and the ghost in the shell.

Realism isnt about adding a c4d in it to make it better or too many effects its how the person (maker the image/tag) imagines things are.

Yes I agree with you CI. It gets annoying. Most of the time I am not on the receiving end of this but it gets annoying to see.

When I don't vote for a realism tag, it's not because it's not realistic but because I prefer the other tag.

[IMG] - I had so many layers on this, it isn't funny.

People think I just added some lighting bolts and desaturated it...how wrong they are.

And as for you Pepsi, you realism tag making sex machine, those are the hottest realism tags alive. Well they aren't alive but you know what I mean.
