im in 3d animation atm, 1st year. I dont know a whole lot but if you need simple objects modeled such as guns or weapons and what not let me know im doing some character modeling next semester as well. I also do texturing.
thanks for all the comments i will take them all into account. and i could do with some modeling help. Eventhough we have a small crew to make this game, the game is slowly getting more and more complex and we are needing more people to help us out. so if anybody thinks that they could help towards the game then send me a PM. thanks for your reading.
I have updated the first post, with a more indepth story of the current age of the game. please read and comment on how i could possible make an improvement. thanks... P.S looking for staff, if anybody is intrested PM me, there is a range of work to be done, and you dont need any experence, just a creative mind.
i thought i might as well upload the groups e.t.c so you do not get o confused. the groups have been changed alittle bit, i will update the story line later today.
well no offense but it has been done ( www.hellgatelondon.com) which is a fairly new game still... but well theres a few things wrong with hellgate. so here are some guidelines i will suggest, so your game doesn't go wrong like hellgate did. 1. Variety in the environments (every single zone in hellgate is instanced as a subway, broken city, or underground catacombs like place, so it is extremely repetitive and boring) It would be nice to have a full range of environments from grassy places, rocks/cliffs, lakes, etc. 2. PvP - many many many players (including myself) play rpg games just for the PvP aspect. Very few games offer a well rounded PvP system. My favorite is large scale war like zones where each faction has a spawn point, and the different factions run around the zone killing each other, but the level has to be built in a way so that there are narrow walkways where if an army isn't careful they can get their whole team slaughtered by magic AoE spells and such, and also large open areas. A great thing that also very few games have is points for killing players. For example, every player you kill earns 50 points if you are fighting solo, in a party each member will get points based on how many players are in the party, etc. But it would also be nice to have players lose a certain amount of points for death, to discourage mindless suicides and things like that. Also instanced zones for clanwars or individual 1v1s would be cool as well. 3. smoothness - i cannot stand games that have horrible movement, where the character constantly gets stuck in random places/wall edges, or even just delayed movement reaction from server lag or whatever. I personally enjoy for the third person rpg games to be able to move by holding down left mouse button and being able to just drag my cursor around and have character follow, and use right click to change camera movement. Now with first person classes...thats not going to work but for third person ones it would be nice to have the option to customize your movements based on preference. 4. graphics - they don't have to be amazing. Games like knightonline and archlord don't have amazing graphics, but the graphics fit the game nicely and are good enough that they dont cause headaches or become annoying. What does become annoying sometimes is when companies try to overdo it with the graphics and it turns out looking like crap, and doesn't flow at all. 5. anti cheat - make sure everything as far as character data, damage, hitpoints, experience, etc are all server sided. And also an anti-cheat that will not allow .dll injections and such. many great games have died or become horribly boring and unfun because of cheaters (knight online, gunz, archlord, etc) well anyway thats my opinion, and as you see I am a pvp lover and that is something i look forward to in a game and well I have played many free and payed rpg games out there and the points i made have just been issues that i've noticed with how successful or unsuccessful games have been as far as lasting long and being fun. oh and if this project really does develop and you need someone to help create spells/skills, weapons, armor, I'd be happy to contribute
It'd be a LONG time before anything close to a beta is released i would think. Designing an engine from the ground up is no easy task, let alone modelling the worlds, characters, items, armours, weapons, scenery, buildings. Incorportating water effects, planning monster to player algorithms..the list goes on. Not to mention sound effects, visual effects and music. Unless he/she is going for a mmorpg kit such as Torque, BigWorld or (gulp) Realm Crafter. It's going to be one big task.
yeah probably not going to happen. I just looked at a free game where the company said they spent over 10 million in development...and it is horrid. But anyway the thought of it happening is always cool. Would be easier to make a runescape type game...but one that doesn't suck

Yes, nothing is impossible, it will take a long time, but im sure myself and with my team behind me we can make this come to life quicker then everybody thinks. We have pretty much planned it all out, its just a case of getting the content from paper to hard drive. We would hope to be using Torque, yet the engin is not really built for online games, and bigworld are about 9k to buy their full package, and well realm crafter, after finding out nobody has ever released a final sucessfull game from it, it was a big fat NO on that one. Well, i know for a fact money doen't always buy everything, there are many small groups of people working around the world building games, that are the next big thing, if they spend 10 mill on a game, and it turnt out to be crap, they must have ben ripped off. lol
Hmm, so it might take years? I would beta test, IDK how i would help in ne other way though. Email: [email protected]
Storyline is a tad Cliche, really, but that's to be expected with this sort of game. And for the love of god, change "Age of the Fairy" Sounds....ew. Either way, a vast amount of people attempt to build games with a huge lack of priory knowledge, at least it looks like you've done your research but...long, long road ahead yet. Good luck.
