25 credits to whoever can help me get my computer fixed Ok here is my problem: I put my computer into standby and when I hit the power button to bring it out of standby it turns on and it appeared as if it actually shut off during standby because it begins to start up like normal, then before my OS started to load it started blabbering about the BIOS and I think it tried to load some sort of backup bios but being the genius that I am I turned it off before it could finish loading them, or it might have had an error because it looked like it froze, was hard to tell because I wasn't paying much attention. But now when I try to turn on my computer it will start up for about 5secs turn off and repeat untill I cut power to it, and nothing shows up on my moniter but I am able to at least open my cd drive if that helps you figure this out at all. So I think it is something wrong with the motherboard I have a P35 Gigabyte S-Series the only thing I can think to do is take out the battery and reset the motherboard since I have no way of getting anythign to show up on my screen. and I did look for any metal on metal the memory is in, nothing is unplugged, so please help!!!!!!
Your BIOS got corrupted, because there was a standby error (common with bad BIOS version)... It tried to flash the BIOS while it was rebooting, you cut the power during the flash, and now, congratulations, you have a dead BIOS. You can open your CD drive because power is running through the system, but the different parts of the system can't communicate. Your motherboard is as good as dead, you should get a new BIOS chip.
ok thanks for the help but i have two more questions, if I get another bios chip will I be needing the exact same kind from the same company and stuff or would I be able to just pick up a decent priced one that is just compatible? and is it reasonably easy to replace a bios chip or would it be less hassle for me to rma the motherboard (if i still can ) if you could answer those that'd be great and would someone mind confirming what iSav said, just want to be sure that's it before I go blow some money on some chip I don't know much about Thanks, K4D
OK, before you GET a new chip (I dont know if you can, these days the BIOS chiups are soldered onto the MOBO), i suggest you short the pins of the BIOS battery for about one minute before you put the battery back in. That might reset the CMOS if there wasn't any big damage... And yes, I think RMA is best option. Just tell them that the PC wouldnt turn on..... And thanks for the creds!
ok after I get back from school i'll check but if it's not soldered on would it be easy enough to replace or do you still think I should rma? because I reall ydont want to wait 2-3weeks for my computer to be working if I go through gigabyte
open your case, and find the CMOS battery remove it. After 30 seconds replace it. this will in essense reset your BIOS settings. it won't fix a corrupted BIOS, but if you've got an unstable overclock ro some other setting it should help. FYI i have the same board myself.
And I alrdy did that before I even posted lol but i've just decided to order the exact same board from newegg and send back my defective one and tell them they sent me a defective one, it'll be faster than going through gigabyte
