    harsh crit:

    well scan lines, ahh where do i start. so unoriginal. Text, green text are you kidding me ? it hurts my eyes and its hard to read. Text on side, I cant read what it says. Navigation very spimple and just doesnt look good. What are those image boxes for ? they arent atracting me, i dont know what to do with them. Content, looks offully big place. What you gona write there ? I wouldnt read an essay.

    Tips :yay: ;

    as a portfolio, you want to keep it original and -----. Make not so much room for your content, few lines, thats enough because there arent many people who likes to read pagefull of stuff. Make an image ( rotating image some sort ) that will keep visitors from main content, maybe nice, flashy navigation. Look up colour scheme to match you sites colours nicely.

    I agree. Unlike web portals, which are designed to get as much info onto one page as possible so that the user doesn't have to click, a portfolio should be minimalist, because what the user is looking for is your work, nothing else really. You should make the nav better, and make the main page just thumbnails of your work, the navigation, and maybe a few sentences. Scrap the green overload of writing, who wants to see writing?

    I don't really agree with everything you said. Firstly, scanlines could be okay, if you use them in the right way. (The right way often means: not as background). In this tut for example, it looks OK: http://dicati.us/article/tutorial:-christm...heme-site-panel.

    Secondly, you were right at the green text. Imo you should use black or white text (or something in between; grey) in 95% of the cases. Coloured text just sucks most of the time (harsh huh :P?)

    Third of all, your layout is too "boxed", try to be a bit creative and dont just make a lot of retangular's with images and colours in them, try differnt sorts of shapes. Get rid of the strokes, boxes are allowed, but dont overuse them and try different things if you decide to use boxes. (such as rounded corners)

    Finally I would recommend you to use more gradients, shadows (not just check the box shadows as you did here, play with the settings!). And please realise gradients, shadows and strokes can be used to create bevel and emboss effects wich are a thousand times better then the standard photoshop ones.

    After all it's a pretty good template, way better than the first one I did. Just keep practicing and do a lot of tutorials to learn new techniques. Then everything'll be alright :P.

    Good luck mate!

    Keep it but never use it. Open up a new photoshop file and start thinking what you should have done otherwise then your current layout because the one you have now is not much special

    I think he was looking for harsh, but constuctive critisism. You don't give him any tips, you didn't tell him what was wrong about his template, and you also did not tell him how to improve it. Let's just be nice and constructive, thats better for everyone.
