Configuring a Dell laptop can often work out good value, especially if you take advantage of a discount voucher or free upgrade deal. Otherwise, just hit up your local computer shop and ask for a deal.

Well depends on what ur looking for. If your looking for a gaming pc you can either go with an Alienware or a XPS both by dell. If your looking for just an all around laptop for documents and such I would suggest an HP or Compaq which are both owned by the same company if im not mistaken.

The only time, and I mean the only time I would ever recommend looking at Alienware is if the original post said "Money is not an issue, whatsoever". With Alienware you pay a premium merely to have their name and logo plastered on. Also, the case design is tacky and ghey. HP and Compaq both fill their laptops full of bloatware, and are a pain in the ass to deal with if anything goes wrong. If you can find something like a Lenovo Thinkpad or a Dell XPS, you wont regret it.

I havent checked out prices recently but I know when I did a while ago Alienware were much cheaper than the XPS if you want a better videocard and such... but like I said if he wants a gaming laptop which will cost him a quite a bit now matter who you go with. Thats not true about HP, those are pretty bias statements it sounds like.

I work as a Sales Assistant in Harvey Normans. I am on the phone with HP reps every day and they have pathetic service. I can spend up to an hour on hold sometimes just waiting to be transferred to the "correct person to talk to". I just did a config of two identical systems of both Alienware and XPS, and it works out almost identical at the very top of the line (8700M GT SLi, T7500 etc) but slightly in Alienwares favour, however, the lower the system got the exponentially worse value the Alienware systems got.

Since the only pricepoint where Alienware is cheaper is way out of the "Not too expensive" price range, it's irrelevent.

Those EEE laptops are amazing.Though I doubt how useful it would be using photoshop and vegas. really good for basic use though.
