it's basically two g92s in SLI but in one package. it's not a bad solution, but definitely not a generation ahead as the name implies.
$450? As far as I know, nVidia haven't confirmed an RRP for it, and $450 sounds like a whole bunch of speculative bullsh!t. Considering current market trends, it'll be closer to $600-700 at least, as with a 30% performance gain over the 8800 Ultra (which is still more speculation), nVidia will want to charge at least what the 8800 Ultra currently is. Besides, the 7950GX2 was a dismal failure. Not because the card lacked power, but because of pathetic driver support, and it wouldn't surprise me if this card went down the same route. I'd rather take a couple of 9800GTX's. None of this information is confimed, so stop acting as though it's something to base purchasing decisions off. I'll stick with my 2 8800GTs thankyou.
Agreed, it's not a bad solution for those considering an upgrade from their older generation cards, but my GTX is still a beast =D I'm sorry if my post was misleading to making people think that they should get this card, I was just letting the people of GR know that this thing will be coming out. So please don't be angry and go berserk .....
I wasn't angry. In many way's it's the fault of many of the news and review sites around, as many are quite open to giving in to speculation, and sometimes fuel the growth of rumours and innaccuracies.
Isn't the 9800 cards, kind of one the hush hush? And arn't they due next month or march? and there still is no real price, nor preview from a popular tech site.
Hardly. Even with out reviews, we've seen engineering samples, and nVidia have confirmed most of the specifications of the cards. However, the impact of the 9800 series isn't really all that big. There is much carryover from the 8 series, much like with the transition from 7 to 8 series. The best value cards will still be in the 8 series, and the 9800GTX is merely an 8800GTX using a G92 core. In that respect, it is in the same league for performance/dollar as the 8800GT and GTS. The one 9 series card i'm interested in is the 9600GT, as it will be using a 256bit memory bus, which is the major reason the 8600 cards sucked. Could be a great value performer, much like the 6600GT was in its time.
Hmm... Maybe it's because I'm looking at the direct conversion rate of US$ to NZ$, but the prices you guys seem to be talking about are much lower than what I'd expect in NZ. Perhaps it's just because the US gets everything so cheap on account of them owning the world.
That's uncalled for. And nL inverse, America don't own the world anymore as seen from the sub prime crisis, AUD and NZ are very strong again the USD and AUD was almost level with it a few months ago. As for this card, its pointless, its two 8800GT's in SLI.
But then you can have 2 of these and have quad sli. Not talking about performance (which I hope will be better then 7950gx2) but more epenis size.
ah w8 let me just enjoy my tough of having those in Quad SLI PS: I mean 4 of them not 2 9800Gtx's but 4, OH YEAH!1!!11!
