Hi, I was using GIMP for a while on my old computer that had XP on it and it was going fine. Though now I have switched to an Intel based Mac with Leopard on it and GIMP isn't running nearly as smooth as it was on the Windows I had. I was just look for a substitute program that I could use (Not Photoshop, my skills are no where near that level yet) that would be good and have some nice features on it. Thanks a lot for any help, I appreciate it! -Swe
The program you use has nothing to do with your skill level. I've seen people make crap in GIMP and Photoshop just like I've seen people make nice pieces in GIMP and Photoshop. Anyway besides Photoshop, Paintshop Pr is the only other program I can think of but you'll probably do better using Photoshop though because there are WAY more tuts and resources for it.
As Havoc said, skill level doesn't matter for what program you use. I've made what some consider amazing graphics in GIMP, while I've made much worse stuff with Photoshop. If you have the money, just buy Photoshop. Learn to use the program, look for tutorials, and you'll be fine. Plus, it's similar to GIMP.
Okay thanks a lot for your input guys, I appreciate it. The main reason for no PS is because my mom doesn't want to spend $700 on a program like that. But anyway Ill try to get around it, I might try to get GIMP to work some how and then put the Gimpshop skin on it or something.
gimp is very similar to PS, just PS has more features and things that gimp cant do. but gimp can make good art.
i'm a GIMP user myself, but i don't run it on a mac. which GIMP version are you running? they updated to 2.4 recently, you might want to check out the mac version. also, everybody's right when they say that program choice has nothing to do with graphics skill. and GIMP's pretty darn flexible -- i did all of my vector work in GIMP.
Well, I got GIMP working and I am really getting into it, but anyway thanks for the help none the less.
Exactly btw...Photohshop was first made for Mac's so I know you wouldn't have this problem.
