Right so, where should I start? I have formatted my pc like 2 times within 2 weeks, I keep having the same issue... perhaps is the window? Not sure... my windows are legit, so I don’t want to test with a dummy version so n e ways on to the issue… First the history of the programs use in the start menu sometimes they suddenly disappear!!! Is like if somehow I clean it and make it disappear, idk how or what I do I left my pc w/o installing any programs for few days and it did it. :/ Now another problem I’m having the pc is like not remembering the last things I did, what I mean is... like when u go to a folder for example and u set it as view “modified” display as “thumbnails” well… when I restart and I go there it’s not as I put it!!! Again, every time I reboot it comes up again as if I first installed windows… the MSN messenger the balloon tip that’s when u minimize warns u saying msn is still running bla bla, it should go away after 1 or 2 days.. Well no! It haven’t gone away and it’s been a week. Ah and another thing when I press alt + 164 or alt + 165 I’m supposed to get this ñ or Ñ. well no, I get this ¥ ¤ is really frustrating, any idea least to solve the issue with the pc not remembering what I last did least make that stupid balloon tip go away. thanks specs: Code: Processor: Intel® Core™2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs) Manufacturer: EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 624 MB Hard Drive: 2 x 250 Seagate SATA 7,200 RPM (storage) 2 x 74 GB WDC Raptor 10 k RPM (used for windows) 500 GB WDC MyBook (storage) Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Operating System: Windows XP ----- PSU: Thermaltake toughpower 650W Power Supply KeyBoard: Logitech G15 Keyboard Mice: Logitech G5 Mouse Monitor Samsung 19 Inch SyncMaster 930B(Analog) DVD Drive: NEC x16 DVD-RW
What is with you and Linux? It clearly is not what he's asking. Sounds to me like it could be memory failure. You should try running memtest86.
unless you're doing it on blend it typically doesn't stress the memory subsystem all too much as the size of the CPUs cache is well... HUGE.
hmm, ill try and test the RAM @ iSav, im a *nix user i run dedicated and i also have linux on a diff partition but, due to im a GAMER and play games such as BF2142 and others since wine and other appz to emulate winblows appz are crappy and not very stable sadly i gotta use windows..
Thats the only issue thats stopping millions of people switching to linux. I have to use windows because of PS CS3
It's hardly the only issue. probably 90% of Windows users would never be able to make the change. Linux is a very different OS experience, despite being intuitive and user friendly. Many older Windows users struggled to grasp Windows in the first place, and are unable to accept such a change. It'll take a long time before Linux or any Linux Distro is anywhere near a major competitor in the mainstream commercial market. However, having said that, some OEM's, Dell, maybe HP, I think, are giving the option to have Ubuntu installed straight from factory. This is a great thing.
VMware yes there's a bit of a performance hit, but it's not that bad since most of the time the end user is the largest bottleneck. Dude I'm with you on that, M$ has screwed over the industry. Apple too.
well turns out one of my sticks was messed up so i removed it, so far is ok... ill need to buy some ram any recomendations? thans nL inverse for the tip using memtest edit: might get these rams http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...%2bOCZ2N10662GK
Get a mac ....No i hate my mac...i never have problems but PC has so many more programs...I have no clue cuz that never happened to my PC
if you're a cheap SOB you can get these for about half as much http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820146565 they have micron D9 ICs and should be able to do within 1% or so of the OCz plat.
I agree with you in VMWare being a good choice to solve problems, but I see using VMWare on linux as being a problem AVOIDER rather than a problem solver. The day games and major apps support Linux, Ill switch forever.
