ok, I switched the PSU, thanks now I changed my mind on the mobo. He wont really need that kind, since he wont be overclocking.. Just for email, music and such so ASRock ConRoe1333-D667 R1.0 LGA 775 Intel 945GC A2 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard And since that has on-board video, I wont need a gfx card Hows that?
^probably fine. and for a pentium D, you don't really need much for a moderate OC FYI. Especially an 805. also, ask him how much he values silence since the stock heatsinks for the pentium Ds are so-so. Either that or consider undervolting.
yea i already have the cpu. Ill be giving him the HSF from the Dual Core E2140. I dont know if its any good but oh well. BTW, the pc he has now, is from about 10 years ago.. doesnt even have a USB slot, so i doubt it had fans in it. the main thing im worried, is the hardware mismatching between the CPU, Mobo, and RAM thanks for answers guys
Meh, on a PC with that budget, spending more on the case would be pointless. From what I've seen, Rosewill is of decent build quality, so cutting yourself on the power button doesn't seem to be an issue here, unlike some of the cheap ass PC's I've built people over the years.
check to ensure the case is ATX compatible. I'm not entirely sure when the transition from AT to ATX took place, I think it was done by 97, but not sure.
ram prices are really cheap now, i think u can pick up around 4gb of patriot ram for as little as $45.
no it'd be closer to 80ish further more for a low end build where the user seems to only need basic functionality, there comes a point where all extra RAM does is waste electricity and in this case that is seemingly what it'd do if my guess on what this system will be used for is correct. when you have a $250 build, increasing costs 25% for something which probably wouldn't help the user in question is pointless.
