Since I have a new computer I've been using it more my old one and now. And I have a few files on there I would like on this computer, but theres no internet access on the other computer. So, can anyone help me set up a network to file transfer between the two computers? I have an Ethernet cable.
well, do you have a router? if not, i think you could set up a bridge, between both computers. if they both got Network Cards, but if u did had a router, could just map the drivers and transfer it via LAN. Uh Btw.. what OS you have on both PC?
I'm using Windows XPSP1 on my old on, and WIndows XP Media Center edition on the other. I do have a router to my third computer (Its my main desktop) My old one is realllly old. 15gigs total memory lol. And the one im using at the moment is a laptop.
FTP mate. Get an ethernet cross-over cable(or just connect via network switch etc, i use it for my xbox), and install flashftp(best ftp client). And then you can drag and drop to your new system.
pop open case, move harddrive fastest solution other solutions include transferring data to disc, or doing a network transfer. for the latter, basically jsut connect the ethernet cable, set up a network in windows and... well at that point I honestly wouldn't know since I've never been much into networking.
well if u got a router and both pc's are plugged to it.. then u can map the drives.. first you need to put the drive where you want to get the files FROM shared, after the drive/folders you want to transfer are shared, find out what is the network ip address for that pc. Start >> run>> type "cmd" with out the quotes in the window type "ipconfig/all" again with out the quote and you will see something like this. <div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain' style='height:200px;white-spacere;overflow:auto'> C:\Documents and Settings\Slight>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Slight Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 4: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, December 16, 2007 7:36:07 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Monday, December 17, 2007 7:36:04 AM l</div> of course it will be diff in yours notice the IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 yours might say, 192.168.1.101 ect. anyway, log on to the other pc make sure the router reads it and go to start right click on "my computer" map network drive.. and put the ip address of the other one (the one you put the drive in share mod) \\192.168.1.1\c assuming it was drive c set as shared
