    The processor on my computer is one of the only things thats out of date (well, not super out of date but you know what I mean)

    Right now I have:
    Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz

    now I don't know anything about how to find a better one or what I need to know about it if it would fit, if its compatible, I know nothing. Can anyone help me?

    get a new motherboard, keep the CPU
    overclock CPU.

    problem fixed, for less $$$

    cost of new board roughly $100 after shipping

    it'll get the CPU to around 3GHz with ease.

    i can walk you through it in 3 easy steps.

    1 set RAM voltage to 2.0 volts, set RAM timings to 5-5-5, and the RAM ratio to 1:1(likely to be represented as 533)
    2 set FSB to 366
    3 set CPU voltage to 1.35V

    viola. You may or may not want a better CPU heatsink.

    Yep, with a motherboard like that I'm pretty certain a Penryn is going to be incompatible, and they're the only real CPU upgrade you could make atm (going higher end C2D would yield less results than overclocking your current, at a much higher price.) you could get that E6400 to beat an X6800 stock by a long way. An X6800 will set you back around $1,000.

    let me reiterate
    I don't like the way 975x scales when limited to a 266Mhz strap. Well that and a few bugs with the board. It saved me well at at around stock it's near perfect. If I had an unlocked multi I'd love this board.

    Buy a new motherboard, DS3 or P5K, then buy dual/quad core wolfdale if you still need a better cpu.
