Hello everyone, I would like to get Guild Wars. I have never actually played it but I have been watching some videos and stuff online and it looks pretty cool. I used to play WoW like 2 yrs ago, I liked it, but got tired of the subscriptions fee and the endless leveling, but I did love the Battle Grounds. From what it looks like, in Guild Wars they have lots of Battle Arena, are these similar to the Battle Grounds in WoW? Also, which ones do I need to buy? The Eye of the North jsut came out a bit ago, if I just get that will I be good to go? or do I need to buy the original game and then get that as expansion? Is it worth it? And what about Nightfall and Factions, are those must haves? Thanks for any help guys!
mm i played guild wars for a while so i can help you.. I didn't buy eotn but for what i remember it's the only one which is not a stand-alone campaign... Maybe you already know this but in Gw there are only 20 levels (so you won't get tired of levelling since you'll reach the max level quite fast) and if you want to try the pvp as soon as you get the game you can always create a pvp charcter, which has good equipments and a certain number of skills (others skills can be bought with factions or unlocked in the pve). The pvp is very tactical (since you can take with you only 8 skills), most of battles are short and fast, so if you screw up you'll get owned easily by good parties, but it don't take much to learn good builds, especially if you find a nice guild that teach you some tricks. I, personally, stopped playing it because i got tired of Pve (and my guild didn't do pvp much) since many times you just can't find a good party to do missions which, even after the introduction of the Heroes, you'll find quite hard to do alone with bots. The campaign i enjoyed more is factions: u'll level up easily and enjoy the game more, but i really don't know how many still plays it. Prophecies was also a great game, while Nightfall lacks something compared to the two prequels.. Hope this helped you..I suggest you take a trial code and then decide to buy it or not
Ok i play GW currently i have all of them Ok first one released was Prophercies then Factions then nightfall then eye of the north(ADD ON FOR PROPHERCIES) I really enjoy GW so if ya need any help just ask
Thanks for the replies. Where can I get a trial code? And if anyone else has suggestions for which one to buy I would love to hear them. I now understand that Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall all work as stand-alone games, or can be added to "upgrade" if you already have another one, and Eye of the North requires you have one of three as it is only an expansion. So which is the best one to buy: Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall? (and which is the best for pvp?)
There really is no 'best' for PvP, because each game gives you new proffesions and new skills(Except prophecies which has the basic proffesions) In Prophecies it's Warrior, Monk, Elementalist, Ranger, Mesmer, Necromancer. In other words, the soldier, the healer, the archer, the spellcaster, the illusionist, and the blood magic guy. In Factions it's all of prophecy proffesions, and Assassin, and Ritualist. The assassin is my favorite PvP charachter to fight with in short battles. The ritualist summons spirits to help him ont he battlefield. In Nightfall there is all prophecy proffesions, no Assassin or Ritualist, but Dervish and Paragon. Dervish's are masters of enchantments which use the scythe, and Paragons are centurions that use a spear. Prophecies PvE is 'Norma' style. Facions PvE is 'Asian' style, meaning the places will look more asian, with Jadeite and stuff like that. Nightfall PvE is "African" style. Each pack gives you 'core' skills which you get from any pack, + you get alot of bonus skills that you can only get from a certain pack. Factions or Nightfall also gives alot of extra skills to the basic proffesions from Prophesies, and Nightfall gives you skills for the Assassin and Ritualist as well. So basicly each next pack gives added skills to all proffessions of previous packs. What you might want to think about is that if you don't have all the packs you have a much less chance of getting into a good PvP group, because you will not have all the skills for the 'builds.' Best sutied for PvP however, with the most usefull PvP skills would be Nightfall. However, Nightfall has the worst PvE of all campaigns, in my opinion. However, Nightfall also gives you 'heroes.' They are your own NPC's which you can customize and control. Other packs will not give you this. Althought Eye of the North will. Factions, however, also gives you a special mode called 'Alliance Battles." Factions seperates the guilds into two groups fighting for control of Cantha, the Faction continent. The two groups are Kurizck and Luxonx. The Kurzick live in dark, stony places, while the Luxon live in sunlight and woody places. The point of this in PvP is, however, that you will be able to participate in special 12 v 12 battles called 'Alliance Battles' These are 12 people vs 12 people, each from a different group, so 12 luxonx vs 12 kurzicks, and you will rage a battle over a big map to fight for control points. Each, say, ten wins 'expands' the Luxon's territory of Cantha, or vica versa. If you ever get the closest you can possibly get to a group, say the Luxons have won alot of battles against the Kurzicks, you will find yourself fighting with the Kurzick at an advantage, meaning they will have a castle, and you will have to get all of the control points. I probably used like 50 'howevers' in that paragraph O-o
Every game has its ups...and downs. I've been playing since the first of the 5 beta weekends for prophecies. I have 3 accounts one is just my basic prophecies mule/PVP account..Its currently at r8 ~3200fame /rank...wolf FTW...I want my tiger though. Im at R4 gladiator at about 800glad points. Lately I only PvP for big GvG matches, PvP has gotten boring to me...metagame is going to hell. PvE account...it has Prophecies, CE Factions, CE Nightfall and GWEN...11 character slots, every class except mesmer represented...this is my "baby" each character is worth near a million gold I guess...way more, but the price of ectos and such has gone to hell. Ive put all 11 characters through all 3 campaigns and am working on GWEN right now which several have finished.This character resides in [Dkmn]'s guild but I regularly guest for [Ego] which used to be [CCCP]. Honestly I couldnt see not playing any expansion, Factions was good for the sins...and AB....but theres no real purpose in AB anymore. Kurzick/Luxon faction is worthless. Nightfall is the busiest game...the most people still playing through this...and both Dervish and Paragon professions are very playable. As well as the perk of having heros. If you're only getting one game, go for nightfall as youll be able to find the most help in-game for it. Also...GWEN..which is an add-on for any game...not just prophecies...it can be coupled with Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall...its a must if you plan on continuing onto GW2 just for the simple fact it has the Hall of Monuments which allows you to carry titles/armor/minipets/weapons over to GW2 in the future. Also...you can just download the client from guildwars.com and go to the in-game store and purchase it, I believe they have some good discounts as well as a trial offer on GWEN right now. And the christment events are starting, so now would be a good time to get into it. If anyone needs help with anything hit me up...my IGN is Shrouded God on my main account.
I own all campaigns and yes guild wars is a really entertaining game that has lasted me for 2 yrs and I still find myself playing the game occasionaly. Eye of the north is the only guild wars expansion out. Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall are considered seperate campaigns and eye of the north can be played as long as u have one of the 3 campaigns. To be honest, I suggest buying nightfall and eye of the north because I found nightfall the most fun with all the introduced options alrdy included from previous campaigns plus the new gameplay mechanics like the hero system really adds some variety.
Basically, buy Prophecies first. Then, if you like PvP get Factions, or if you like PvE get Nightfall.
Prophecies will be tough to finish up...not too many people still play those missions and such. Get Nightfall...and EotN....and if you enjoy it. Then pick up Factions...and then if you feel you're still lacking something, get prophecies.
