OK, I'm getting a new monitor for xmas. What is the best kind I can et for doing still graphics for under 250 and a 19" flat? I heard Samsung was good but I wanted more opinions...
Pick a brand, whatever looks the nicest. All 19" LCD consumer monitors use the same TN panels, so the differences between them are minimal. Brands such as Acer, Samsung, Viewsonice, Chimei, etc.

hm widescreen would usually stretch videos the main example anyways but if you dont need a widescreen there are quite a few that are normal since i do quite a bit of video editing i need more desktop space .. and a normal aspect monitor cant hack so bigger the better
for graphics design, basically look for an sIPS panel. you want a true 8bit panel and NOT a 6bit with dithering. then run the monitor at it's native resolution. 1280*1024 on a monitor designed for 1680*1050 will inevitably result in distortion.
Also, you may want to investigate going from 19" to 20", as it will allow you to bump up the resolution a considerable amount.
all cheap monitors use the same panels all expensive ones also use the same panels.(different from the cheap ones) the panel is the major contributing factor to a monitors image reproduction. The two industry standard panels are TN and sIPS(though MVA and PVA are somewhat common too) TN - responsive, cheap to produce, mediocre color reproduction, relatively poor viewing angles. Commonly used in cheap LCD monitors, and in "gaming" monitors sIPS - somewhat less responsive than TN(modern sIPS is still good enough for the likes of gaming and movies as the rated time is usually closer to the average response time, EG 8ms sIPS panel is comparable to a 5ms TN panel) decent color reproduction, pretty good viewing angles, EXPENSIVE to produce. Commonly used in HDTVs.
Go with a Samsung or Acer, They're the best 2. I have a 19" Acer myself and its great ^.^ Acer are usually cheapest. But sometimes Samsung are the better quality i hear. Idk, Whichever one suits you.
i have an hp 19" wide screen and i love it =D basicly, get any monitor that looks the best in ur opinion but dont get an acer. my friends say its bad for some reason lol
I really like Samsung over LG. But I find that they are the same, owning both. But the LG one is wide screen, something common with them.
