The Wii is universally loved, especially in its home country Japan. Month after month since launch, the Wii managed to outsell fellow Japanese rival PlayStation 3, but that all changed this month, as the final tally favors Sony’s console for November. Citing information from Enterbrain, Reuters reports the PlayStation 3 outsold the Wii in the four weeks to November 25. Sony sold 183,217 PlayStation 3 and Nintendo sold 159,193 Wii in the period. The PlayStation 3’s climb to the top of the Japanese sales charts has been one building up for months. The Wii was outselling the PlayStation 3 by six-to-one during summer, but by fall, the gap narrowed to three-to-one. Despite the PS3’s success in November, some analysts feel that the console’s stay at the top may only be temporary. "It's nice to see the system selling much better than six months ago. But is it a sustainable trend? Is it going to really escalate from here? I'm not so sure," KBC Securities analyst Hiroshi Kamide said. "Overseas, I don't really see the PS3 doing that much at Christmas time primarily because it's still more expensive than the other machines and has less software." Sony told the media that sales of PlayStation 3 have tripled in the U.S. thanks to Black Friday sales, though early reports from Microsoft and Nintendo have placed sales of the two other consoles above that of the PS3. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=9849 ---------------- Sony trying to play catchup...wish they'd release more games...
I think its because everyone wants the Wii, but its sold out everywhere (or at least here in Toronto it is...) the sales of the Wii went down and people went to the Ps3 instead.
it only outsold it in japan. admittedly japan accounts for 1/3rd of sales give or take, but the wii still outsold it globally. on that note, there is STILL a global shortage of wiis. saying something with back stocked inventory outsold something in shortage in one particular instance in one particular region is like saying that those who wished to get a console and had no other choice went for the console they didn't already own. And lets face it, the japs Hate M$ almost as much as I do and they love Sony and Nintendo it's sold out in the US and Europe too.
Omg, I'm like so going to get a ps3 now. I think it's because of the price cut (400-500 bucks for a ps3 isn't too shabby compared to $6-700)
FYI Wii outsold Sony this quarter, I dont know where they got their numbers. Wii in the first two weeks of Novemember alone did over 602,000 console sales. Before the month is over, Wii will be breaking the record that was set by Sony when the PS2 came out, by having over 1 million consoles sold in a month. Also as a side note, a HUGE portion of Sony sales, are coming from Sony Reps themselves. How do I know this? I sell Sony hardware to the Sony Reps all the time. Just the other day a Sony Rep came into my store and bought every last 80gig PS3 I had, claiming to be using them for promotional use.
I'll be blunt, at $400 the PS3s aren't too bad. That's still pretty dang good. I dislike sony, but for $400 it's not a bad deal. it's only in japan that they outsold the wii.
getting ps3 is a good deal since it comes with bluray player which i think costs more than the ps3 it self haha
guess you haven't checked the prices of blu-ray platers in a while... the lite on DH-4O1S is under $200 in the retail market.
