Hmm...these are just ideas that have been running through my head...so if they fail...it wont surprise me...

I understand that NSL uses classing and many hate the idea of being 'ranked' on their work. But I also feel its a way to push an artist to strive...to get to the next tier and accomplish something...and show hes made an improvement. I also think there are enough un-biased people willing to to help with classing...so the 'kool kids' dont get --- and such, so itll be based on skill.

    Now my next point...

The whole team setup, involving classing..to make it sort of a a league. Now let me explain...itll also give a reason for creds to be spent...each member is to be making a salary(creds) paid by the team...discussed between the two. Also allowing teams to trade members for other members+creds and such, exactly like the MLB or NFL does. And perhaps for new members...a draft...every month a 'draft pick' would come about. And the team who did the worst in team contests the month before get the first pick of willing members.

Now...the reason I mentioned about putting classing into place for teams to use this style 'roster'

    Team SukiSukiLonTim

    1 Member ranked ---
    5 Members ranked ------
    10 Members ranked -----
    20 Members ranked Moderate
    unlimited-- Members ranked ------...

And to give it kind of a 'cap' so one team couldnt have an advantage over another in the contests...

go on...tell im an idiot and I fail...but thats my idea...I think it could cause a lot of teams to grow closer...and spring up a lot more close knit teams and more competition among them...I also don't think this has been done before...so it could give GR something new to offer to anyone/everyone...

    This idea is really nice.
I agree with ranks, it will make people push more. It could start arguements tho.

The league sounds fun, but idk... it could work.

It is impossible for teenagers to have impartial views of people, thus making any ranking system unfair. Besides, none of you are professinal, and im not professinal. However, if we can find a way to make a classing system, thats not gonna turn unfair, then staff will consider it.

classing would attract a lot of new members, but it just gives some people false power over others. some people who get ranked highly think they are the best people in the world, and they condescend to other members. we would hate to see people being attacked because they arent as experienced at graphics.

I agree there 100%, and thats the reasons most 'ranking' systems fail...people playing favorites...but I also feel there are several people here who give their un-biased opinion on every sig they come across. The only way I can see making a classing system work...is giving a group (5-10?) people who can be trusted to give their un-biased opinion on someone and their work...and give the reasons each sig is classed at the rank it is...and why it wasn't classed higher (C&C) to help improve the members work and 'explain' the classing they got. Now...after the majority of the classing crew has voted--the class can be issued via a point system based on the examples of work classed...

    Sig 1
    staff member 1: mod
    staff member 2: mod

    Sig 2
    staff member 1: mod
    staff member 2: nov

    Sig 3
    staff member 1: -------
    staff member 2: ------

    Sig 4
    staff member 1: -------
    staff member 2: mod

    Sig 5
    staff member 1: mod
    staff member 2: nov

    where as

    Nov=1pt
    Mod=2
    -------=3
    ------=4
    ---=5
    ----------
So the average of the first sig is 1, second is 1.5, third 3.5, fourth is 2.5, fifth is 1.5 (which IMO, half points should be rounded down...if its not a 100% number....its not good enough)

then take the average on each sig by all the votes...and use them to give the classing based on the amount of staff? classing them...

So if 5 people were classing this member....5 people at 5 tags each leave a total for 25 points on each tag max....and a minimum of 5....times 5 tags is 25-125 total...so based on that point system:

    25-55=Nov
    56-80=Mod
    81-100=-------
    101-115=------
    116-125=---
    ----
And also...the word '---' I dont really needs to be taken into context as the word "-----" in a business sense. Straight out of high school I worked in a graphics shop that did decals/stickers...car wraps...car graphics...etc. So I made my money by doing graphics...but I wouldn't consider myself ---...especially not compared to some of the work here. Just like in many MMORPGs some people are considered '---' runners...'---' farmers...'---' monks....ETC...doesn't mean they make a living doing this...its just a status thing...like saying someone is leet...

to be honest it will make me tag a lot more, for instance

say i make a tag, i get ranked ----, so then i would keep making more tags to try and get the gold...

it would make GR a lot more active imo

Then put personal attacks against the rules.

Personally I think ranking would be a good idea, but not sure about the league thing. Seems a little far-fetched.

i, personally would love to see a ranking system here, but i know that it will be tough. some people see a tag as good, while others see it as bad. its really hard to narrow it down through styles and peoples opinions.

having a honest set of people whom are open minded to be the designated "raters" would help. I can already think of people whom are mature and experienced enough to do that.

One thing i just thought of...

(some) people might not make tuts on there work, because they might want to be the winner, and would not want people to know there tricks that makes them win

so?, it's there right to if they want to or not . . .

anyways, i think this is a brilliant idea, but the thing it would need would be a ton of active members and fair members. If i'm not mistaken most of the members are 16 year old males. I don't know who active and fair they can be, and that is the root problem

unless they want to get creds where they just put it in the paid section or they release labelled tags for LR/FR for credits.

What is the motivation to release free tuts now? Rep. That will continue to be a factor whether we have ranking or not because the whole idea of getting ranked is getting known, to be more specific, to get your graphic skills known. The point of rep is getting known as well, just not necessarily graphic skills (which is why I want ranking).

And I know that alot of people on GR are nice and mature enough to not let rankings obstruct generosity.

I think this would honestly be a great idea. I mean, I personally do not make too many tags, as I am usually the one critiquing other's tags. But I think that it would be fun to have a "rank" even if I were a ------...it would just be something fun, and give you something more to reach and work for.

Although, we would definitely have to be careful on who we would choose to be the members who would rate the tags, and overall the artists throughout GR. It would also have to be someone commonly on, because at the beginning it would be a lot of rating needed to be done.

I definitely think that a rating system could be a good thing for GR. I mean, I think it would be worth a shot, and if something does go wrong in the process, we would just take it away, its not that big of a deal. But I think it would definitely be something worth trying.
