Listen to 50 cent before he got shot. Some of it is okay, some of it is garbage.

I like Classified tbh, Common and Kanye, maybe some Mixtape Akon shiit, but for underground there isn't much new stuff I like, as it's hard to come across.

Seriously, this rapper I've discovered recently, named Tonedeff, is amazing. Check him out here:

Erm, ignore the "FASTEST RAPPER EVER" exaggeration thing, and enjoy the song.

Generally speaking 'underground' artists rap about a different subject matter than their commercial brethren. Songs focus more on personal issues, politics, relationships, and philosophy, and tend to be more introspective and self-critical. However, underground hip hop also has roots in battle rapping, and "-----talk" songs are quite common, as many underground rappers display the egoism and braggadocio common to rap music. Underground production tend to be diverse, drawing on such musical styles as jazz, funk, electronica, and techno, as well as more traditional hip-hop for beats.

Anticon is the label I stick to... Sage Francis, Sole, then some other guy named Edan. Might be a bit too abstract though.

Lupe Fiasco isn't exactly underground anymore. One of the better mainstream rappers though.

I prefer oldschool & underground rap/hiphop, mainstream rap these days is wrecking the rap industry.

" Mainstream rap sucks also heh."

Thats a mainstream comment. Everyone claims they bang underground hip-hop however being " underground " has nothing to do with to which you reffer.
    What im getting at is the reason these artest gain so much respect over the platnium artists is because of their;
-MESSAGE ( a message in a rap/cypher/freestyle ect.. is one of the fundimentals, for example TUPAC. Mainstream but his message is what sold that and his ideals)
-Complextity, more then two sylabol hooks coupled with, PUNCHLINES,METAPHORES,SIMILIES,STRUCTURE,ALLITERATION + more ( alot of which can help greatly with english studies IMO )
-POLITICAL STANCE, another driving force in current underground hip-hop ( immortal technique, jedi mindtricks and saigon for example )
-LOVE OF THE CULTURE AND ART, self explanitory.

" Since the deaths of BIG and POC (pac), we wanted some real artist(s)// Not some phoney acting like he hardest// someone to take our minds and uplift-us// They gave us 50 Cent, DAMN I THINK THEY SHORT CHANGED US!// "- Encrypted Hieroglyfiks ( my owner lyric so don't RIP.)

Simply mainstream has become a money making exercise, its no longer about the culture, art,or message, its about lining pockets.
"Candy Rap" more popularly known as current mainstream, is just simple derogitory, mindless dribble with a nice beat with simplistic lyrics.

The whole concept of hip-hop was a street art which originated with people making beats in anyform from banging trash cans to " Beat boxing " inorder to creat somthing from nothing. Which later evolved to using samples from music in other genres( done no better then by the infamouse JEDI MIND TRICKS, even tupacs " changes" was a sample from an oldies song ), a concept lost to flashy, upbeat beats and simple hooks.

Papoose is a good illistration of that grey area between flashy and underground. He is doing his thing FT so big artists however his lyrics represent that REAL street style, very hungry, innovative, unique and poetic, no better upcommer in my book.

    Recomended artists:
Immortal technique ( D/l WAX 42 freestyle by him, akir and diabolic sweet IMO )( DANCE WITH THE DEVIL)
JMT ( vietnam story ((released last few months )).)
    papoose ( Alphabetical slaughted)
    saigon ( true story )
    apathy
    demi godz
Army of the pharohs ( lead buy JMT's lead lyracist. ) D/l Rage of angles ( new joint i heard this week )
    Diabolic (one of the illest ) d/l " hold your toungs " " get F***ED up "
    C-Rayzwalz
    Akir
    Talib kweli
    Jean Grae
    Pumpkin head
    Mos Def
    Bliss N Esso ( aussie mc's )

Some recomended songs for them artists too.
Anything by any of these cats is pretty much a sure shot.

    Thats my ramble.
