http://visionex.deviantart.com/art/Framed-69290304 This work took about 10 hours to finish. There were a load of lighting adjustments to be made, and fine details to be fixed. The details of the work are in the description. This work as been featured in one of the dA news articles in the last 2 weeks. I created the frame and lighting from scratch. Nothing unusual to my norm, just starting to think about photography more in my works than I have in the past. Programs used: Adobe Photoshop CS2/CS3
Thanks. It was a hard concept to suit, and honestly, it took almost as much time to find that image on deviantart as it did to make the work. I surfed over a few days at a time, the first day, for 6 hours, and I couldn't find anything that suited it. After I found xxchange's page the second day, I was so excited to finally get something that suited what I wanted, I've added her now...something I only typically do to my friends. She's a terrific photographer for an amateur.
While I commend you for making the frame, I can't really say I like this piece. I have mixed feeling about the scene in general. I do like the idea of popping out of the frame, but I think it could have been executed better. I don't really care for the photograph you used either. At the top of the piece where the light starts you can see faint black stripes/boxes I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. Overall though, I think the scene you made is lacking. I suggest you try to incorporate the whole frame idea into another wallpaper.
After reading this, I have to agree. It's going to be another tough search, or a week or two of work for the idea I have in mind, but I'm going to redo this piece and try multi-directional light, not just down-lighting. This next time, in a field or something more natural. The background, however, is supposed to be a wall of fabric, or something of that sort. I used the scan lines pattern, that I created already for a minor filler, but as I increased the size, it was supposed to make a weave pattern, or something appearing like it was fabric, not just checkers. I think it turned out right, but it had to be less visible as the light was coming down on the texture, as the shading was changing on it.
