I'm going to assume you mean CRT, but yes they use analog signals and when you don't get them in fully that's what happens.

that said i think highend CRTS give better image quality and responciveness than most LCDs and cost less to boot. I doubt that'll be the case forever and LCD image quality is improving admittedly.

The difference all depends on what panel you're getting. Most of the low end TN panels have poor image quality compared to the high end CRTs. Although, I have to admit, my mate's 24" Dell has awesome image quality compared to any CRT I've seen. My 22" Acer ain't bad, either.

pretty much every single 22incher is a TN though. sIPS is usually in the $$$ monitors and even then it's slightly less responsive than Tns(sIPS and similar have worse white-to-black response, than TNs but closer g2g). regardless of panel type though, you're still going to have poor black reproduction contrast and limited color range due to the fact that there is a black light. we need LED backlighting, it's just it's price is outrageous.

as for why you'e never seen a goo CRT... you haven't, most of the CRTs people have are lower end ones. Compare to the likes of say a Sony Trinitron FW900
