Well against Xlink's word I got a BFG Tech Geforce 7300GT as it was 3 bucks and same change after I used a bestbuy giftcard and I need something quick and I wont be upgrading my system for another month or so. But...wondering on what the temp should be 42C is what its idling at...full work load is at about 48C after a good hour or 2 itll be at 50C under workload. This ok?
your temps are fine. FYI it's not that I advised against the card, i advised against it at the price they were charging. had no clue you had a gift card.
^_^ ty a ton Xlink. I just know you know your ---- and I dont...but for 3 bucks in cash and no shipping, I figured it was worth it. Ill come to you for my next build, and Ill listen, I promise ^_^
nVidia cards have a threshold of 120C so once they hit that they will start to slow the GPU down to cool off.
120C??? I would immediately turn off my PC if my card hit mid 80C's till I figured out the problem or improved the cooling. 50C is fine.
Yeah I wouldn't recommend it getting that high either but its good to know and put your mind at ease.
He's always giving great answers. It's true, you don't want your video card to hit 75(tops), just in case.
I'll be blunt, in most cases mid 80s is fine for a video card. Video cards are largely more resistant to heat than CPUs. Every highend card out today hits the mid 80s under load with the stock cooler. heck my 8800GTS with the fan set on auto goes silent at nearly 90. I've heard that the fan starts to kick in around 100.
