Well, I recently bought the game and have been playing it for a few days.. I'm not doing so bad, getting a few kills here and there, but still get slaughtered most of the time. I know practice makes perfect, but I was wondering if anyone had any useful tips they might want to share to help me survive a bit longer/kill more efficiently etc.

Anything that works is muchly appreciated :)

This may or may not be the case but try to find servers with a zero tolerance for hacks. Also learn how to bunny hop it will help you can find videos on youtube on how.

To aim better, you need a smaller cross hair. Type in cl_crosshairscale 4000. The bigger the value of the number is, the smaller the cross hair.

Strafe a lot. This decreases the chances of being hit.

Burst-fire rather than spray when its long distance combat. This means fire 2-3 bullets at a time instead of emptying your clip in 2 seconds. Same as vice-versa. You don't want to want to shoot 2-3 bullets at a guy when hes 1 cm away from you.

Learn the map. Know where people are going to be and where they hide. de_dust2 is an easy map you can learn.

Use scroll wheel down to bhop. I have my jump binded to scroll wheel down and space bar. This is possible since I have 2 cfgs, a "config" and a "autoexec".

I used to be in a Cal team got into the top 25, Many different configs ect.

Sensitivity, For close combat high sens, For ranged combat low sens. Helps alot, Just bind a key to toggle between the two, Or just have a mode on your mouse with different speed settings.

Bunnyhop as others said, Even though i dispise hoppers, Also learn about the recoil of all the guns, Not just the m4 and ak47, Numerous times i have 5 manned a team with just an mp5.

AWPing, People call it noobish, They just dont have the skill to be able to awp. Sensitivity toggles help here also.

Strafe as stated above, But try not to strafe too much. And also walk when you dont need to run. It makes you a less vulnerable target. As they cant hear you. Also stick to the walls and try not to stay in open areas such as doors or leave you gun poking out. If you need to cross a door smoke it, Or jump over the gap. Or better yet, Find an alternative root or distract such as a smoke, flash through, then move away.

    Any more just ask.

Me and some friends used to play 1.6, at a ------ --- level.
Ive been trying some Source, but idk. I dont find it as fun as 1.6.
    Tho I quit pc gaming.

Anyways, people above have pretty much stated the most.
I dislike bunnyhop, but its ok sometimes in non serious stuff.
Dont use hacks. You might learn how to aim (using wallhack), but you wont get any better when playing without it.
You wont learn how to time your shots etc.

Learn how to control the recoil.
    Learn sprays/bursts.
When it comes to maps, you will want to know all the angles and spots.
    Smoke/flash doors.

I was thinking about saying wallbanging, but you cant shoot through walls in Source lol.

I'd say this one is personal. If I had 2.1 and 2.9, I'd never get my muscles used to it.

Try reading this, Boot Camp for the n00b by Razer :P

Play hard, go --- my friend.

    Edit: ----- and ------ disabled.

    Depending on the weapons you choose;

Snipers - practice running, stopping, scoping then shooting. It helps later on if you're running out of scope and someone happens to pop up. It also helps train your reaction time.

Bursting weapons - when using bursting weapons, try to aim a little bit above their chest. Usually when I do this and let out a 2 shot burst, it'd hit them in the head. If you want a full clip burst, aim at their knees and burst upward.

Pistols - always try to aim for the head. That's pretty much the only practice you can get.

As former catain of our CAL team..Learn the differnt weapons..You can spray with almost all but your aimpoint is different..Also Walk dont run when the numbers are reduced..learn the hiding spots ..people "camp" in the same spots all the time once you learn them you can flash the area first or pop out from around a corner kill them and pop back..learn this technique(the "pop" around the corner shoot and pop back) its essential.

I think AWP and a Desert Eagle is a very powerful combination and suitable for both long range and short range.

First and most important: Find a sensitivity you like, a good tip, make sure you dont move the mouse more than half a mousepad to do a 180 turn.

Get on a deathmatch server, they make your reaction time go down, let you practice and be better.
