I wasnt sure whether this should go in Gaming or in here, so if I'm wrong, can a mod please move? Thanks OK, I recently (like a couple of hours ago) bought CS:S and created a new steam account. I bought CS:S through Steam, and downloaded it onto my system. Now, the problem is when I run it. It seems to run OK up until ANY game I join, regardless of the location of the game. It just runs really really slow, jolty, like my machine is struggling to handle it. Now, I went into the display settings, and changed everything to low detail/minimal reflections etcetc.. It even says in this menu, with the little stars next to the recommended settings, that it should run fine on high detail.. Yet even on low detail, with the screen resolution at 640x480, it is still really slow.. I mean, I'm running along minding my own business, and someone comes out in front of me.. They have killed me before I have even got a chance to attack, and no, its not because I suck (which is probably true, but I dont even have a chance to find that out, lol) but because they are jolting left, right and center too.. Any ideas on how I can make the game run smoothly? I am running it on a laptop, so upgrading isnt really an option... Is there a test I can do which automatically scans the system and checks if it will run ok? I have clicked on the 'Help' > 'System Information' to see if that brings up anything that might be of any use, but that just crashes Steam everytime I try.. Any help is GREATLY appreciated
Go here http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest And scroll down until you find CS:S and make sure you machine, modem, ect can handle it. All it is, is a java applet checking requirements... If I had a guess, your video card/RAM needs updated or is does not meet the requirements... More than likely Video Card... Also its not running at a 64 bit and your machine is only a 32 bit...
You might want to run a config, if your system specs aren't too good. That's always a great idea, I have a good one , if you want to . Put this in wordpad and save as .cfg in steam/Steamapps/<username>/counters strike source/cfg/ Code: clear clear r_modellodscale 0.1 showhitlocation 1 r_drawbatchdecals 0 cl_ejectbrass 0 mat_picmip 0 r_rootlod 0 r_lod 0 r_decals 50 cl_winddir 0 cl_windspeed 0 cl_downloadfilter nosounds cl_minmodels 0 cl_min_ct 2 cl_min_t 3 cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0 cl_crosshairscale 4000 hud_centerid 1 cl_lagcompensation 1 cl_interpolate 1 cl_c4progressbar 1 net_graph 3 net_graphpos 2 cl_allowdownload 0 cl_allowupload 0 cl_cmdrate 100 zoom_sensitivity_ratio 1.05 cl_updaterate 100 rate 30000 sv_forcepreload 1 cl_smooth 1 cl_lagcompensation 1 cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 0 cl_interp 0.01 cl_interp_all 0 cl_interpolate 1 cl_predictweapons 1 cl_pred_optimize 2 sv_unlag 1 net_maxfragments 1280 budget_show_history 0 cl_resend 6 fps_max 95 jpeg_quality 100 gl_clear 0 cl_drawmonitors 0 cl_forcepreload 1 r_shadowmaxrendered 32 r_shadowrendertotexture 1 r_shadows 1 mat_fastspecular 0 mat_antialias 0 mat_bumpmap 0 mat_clipz 1 mat_compressedtextures 1 mat_mipmaptextures 1 mat_fastnobump 1 mat_filtertextures 1 mat_filterlightmaps 1 mat_forcehardwaresync 0 mat_parallaxmap 0 mat_reducefillrate 1 mat_softwareskin 0 mat_trilinear 0 mat_vsync 0 r_occlusion 0 r_renderoverlayfragment 0 r_dynamic 1 r_avglight 0 r_lightaverage 0 r_lightinterp 0 mat_disable_bloom 1 mat_bloomscale 0 mat_hdr_enabled 0 mat_clipz 1 mat_bumpmap 0 r_3dsky 1 cl_c4progressbar 1 cl_smoothtime 0 mp_decals 20 texture_budget_background_alpha 9999999 texture_budget_panel_height 0 texture_budget_panel_width 0 r_modellodscale 0.1 showhitlocation 1 r_drawbatchdecals 0 r_eyes 0 r_dynamic 0 r_avglight 0 cl_drawmonitors 0 cl_ejectbrass 0 cl_phys_props_enable 1 cl_phys_props_max 50 cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0 cl_ragdoll_collide 0 cl_show_splashes 0 r_lightaverage 0 r_lightinterp 0 r_eyeglintlodpixels 0 r_eyesize 0 r_eyeshift_z 0 r_eyeshift_y 0 r_eyeshift_x 0 r_eyemove 0 r_eyegloss 0 r_teeth 0 r_decals 100 r_decal_cullsize 0 r_drawflecks 0 r_dopixelvisibility 1 r_drawmodeldecals 1 r_avglightmap 0 r_renderoverlayfragment 0 r_radiosity 4 r_occlusion 0 r_shadowmaxrendered 32 r_shadowrendertotexture 1 r_worldlightmin 0 r_worldlights 0 r_flex 0 fog_enable 0 fog_enableskybox 0 cl_ejectbrass 1 muzzleflash_light 1 violence_ablood 1 violence_agibs 1 violence_hblood 1 violence_hgibs 1 r_3dnow 1 r_mmx 1 r_sse 1 r_sse2 1 cl_restrict_server_commands 0 r_decals 20 mat_picmip 1 r_rootlod 1 r_lod 1 cl_minmodels 0 cl_min_ct 2 cl_min_t 3 phys_timescale 1.5 m_pitch 0.022 m_customaccel 0 m_yaw .022 zoom_sensitivity_ratio 1.2 clear clear clear clear clear echo BetaMerc's Config This config is setup to lower most of the graphics, and gettin' the most fps possible. Note: If you have a slow connection change this in config: 'rate 25000'
Thanks a bunch guys, I will try both of these tomorrow, right now it is a bit late and I'm headed to bed +rep for you both if they work EDIT: Thought screw it, and am trying them now.. travmanx, I went onto that site and couldnt find CS:S in the list, so I tried HL2 instead, and it says "Congratulations, your system passes the recommended requirements! You should have a great experience running this product." BetaMerc, what do I call the .cfg file in that directory?
basically you're have an onboard intel graphics chipset. There isn't much that can be done about that, those are the definition of mediocre. Hardware wise not much will be changing as the only real deficit you have is your video. game optimizations to hell is the only way. All low ingame, mods etc. Try the steam forums I'm sure they have lists and tweaks galore over there. before posting tell them your basic specs. While you left a lot of ambiguity as to what your CPU is anything @ 3.2 Ghz or rated for 3.2 Ghz(like a 2Ghz pentium M, or a 1.6 Ghz Core 2) is sufficient. as for runnign that config, what you do is you go to options then to keybaord then to advanced and you enable developers console, then copy/paste it in.
well, the problem only seems to be with a couple of maps, not the entire game.. runs beautifully on some maps,so i guess i will have stick with those. thanks a lot for the help guys
disable high dynamic range rendering in advanced graphic options. it EATS performance //high dynamic range is only active on some maps so this might cause your problem
for example name it beta1. Then, you're going to go to console, by hitting "~" , and type in "exec beta1" also, if you don't have your console on, go to Options > Keyboard > Advanced > check the console option The config that I just gave him, turns it off
Try this: 1. Go to your game list 2. Right click the CS: S > Properties 3. Set Launch options 4. Add this line to it "-heapsize 1048576 -refresh 100" This increases the RAM usage to 1 GB . Hope it helps. EDIT: Do you use any other programs while running CS: S ? Also, read what xlink said, if this doesn't help, then yeah.
The increasing RAM usage worked a treat still slightly laggy on a couple of levels, but nothing nearly as bad as before, so i think that the problem is sorted thank you guys a LOT! one final question though.. how do i get rid of the scrollerbar, and the text at the bottom of the screen? the ones the red arrows are pointing to in this screenshot?
Weird bug, open it and instead of pressing ESC , press the X on top of the window, it has happen to me before xD
