----- artists and companies need proof that they have bought the program. since they are making things that are very public, they will spend the money to get the results they want. though most young people dont pay for it, they know that some people have to because when you are selling things that are very popular, you need proof that you actually own something.

Photoshop is, and has for a long time been the industry standard. Someone said Firefox was a powerful browser but was still free. Firefox is on a completely different scale. Browser software takes far less time, money and expertise to make than something like Photoshop. Also, Firefox is open source, meaning a huge amount of its content and features was developed by the community, much like Linux.

Also, Adobe do NOT have a monopoly on the market. Companies such as Corel offer programs very much like photoshop, and are very popular.

Also, if you can't afford it CS3/2 you can always get Elements, which contains the more consumer aimed features and is considerably cheaper.

You have to remember that Photoshop CS3 is INDUSTRY STANDARD SOFTWARE. Check out any other industry standard software from different industries and you'd be looking at similar (or much greater) price tags.

Not to keep beating a dead horse.. but it is because major corporations will purchase it.

Like it was pointed out earlier, the revenue these companies make advertising is tremendous. The cost of photoshop is small to them due to that revenue.

I just find it funny that you can just get a pirated version. The majority of the people that complain about the price only goof around on photoshop. And by goof around I mean they don't make high end graphics to sell/advertise with [on a national/global market anyway]

It pretty much boils down to Adobe knowing that anyone who's going to have the money/use the program to do something worth while is going to pay for it. Slash they don't really care about the little guys that don't get much out of it.

That's my take. I could be completely and utterly wrong tho :D

Oh, and the price is that high because of what you can do with photoshop. If you have to honestly question that, then you don't know the half of what photoshop can do/how to do it. It is.. well, amazing.

What CAN'T you do with Photoshop? Photoshop isn't for making sigs. It's for pr[IMG]fessionals who are probably going to be making their own profit using Photoshop. If I create something that is going to make YOU rich, I want to get rich off of you. It's how the economy works lol.</span>

It's become one of the most pr------ent design programs out there, for both companies and individuals. It has features, and so much effort put into it, that the team wants to be paid for all of it. Point blank, I think.

Well the reason why Photoshop is so expensive comes down to a complex mathimatical equation...

    Photoshop > Life

Naw, but srsly.. It's expensive because people will buy it.

Yeah I agree. Photoshop isn't exactly an industry standard. It's just more "preferred" by many graphic artists. Corel is much cheaper than Photoshop and it's still a great program to use in place of Photoshop.

Erm, why is this still open? lol, it's obvious that Photoshop is a nice program, and only big companies are willing to spend that much money while the people who are just making tags and large pieces for no profit are finding other means of getting it.
