Yeah, that was so worth posting.

I run Vista and XP. Partition your HDD. Quit ragging on Vista too, when XP came out people gave it the same ----. Now look what you are switching to. The more you use it, the more you like it.

    cost of XP $100 OEM
    cost of 3GB RAM $100

IMO it's better to have more RAM under vista than less under XP if the cost is the same.

that said I don't consider vista worth the BS just quite yet. maybe in a few months when drivers get better.

The drivers are already caught up. You know when "Creative" gets their release out everything is fine (Creative Labs takes ------ing forever to release drivers).

And the new system with Vista is so much better once you sit down and mess with it. Just turn off UAC and you're alright. I don't understand why people bash new OS's. Damn. .

I've used vista ever since they sent it out to us MSDN subscribers...
I've used it for long enough to know the ins and outs, Vista when it comes down to it doesnt bring anything new to the scene.
XP was a big improvement on the primary os of the time (Win98). Adding many newfeatures and making it somewhat stable. Vista while looking as shiny as it is it isnt really any different than the skins made by third parties for XP.
In respect for XP be bagged out on its release, i believe you must be mistaken, to a degree it took some time for people to justify the cost of a copy or a new computer that was pre-installed with it. The jump from 98 to XP (yes i do realize the there was 98SE, 2000 and ME but they were are far behind the numbers of 98 machines) was ALOT smaller than the jump in system requirements required for vista. In reality it is hard to compare the two trasitions, public adoption of the computing lifestyle has changed many of the original issues people had with computers. BTW i was in no way bashing Vista. I've had my personal computer running vista and linux side by side for over a year now. Specifically I was only saying that I am happy to return to my polished ,customized and optimized copy of XP which has never let me down.
I really shouldn't have written all this :| i have home work to do :(

The only real difference in specs required for Vista is RAM, which is currently cheap as chips, and the easiest, most cost effective upgrade possible to make for your PC. Yes, Vista does require more RAM (Although anything upwards of a Gig is fine), but it uses it so much better. You get better performance per byte than with XP, and there is a huge amount of features in Vista I would sorely miss if I reverted back to XP.

I ran Vista for a about three months until the problems started to outweigh the benefits. There were just too many driver problems to cope with. Firstly, my the LAN port on my PC didn't work the first time I boot, I had to restart it before it worked. The thing that really annoyed me about that was, that it was a documented bug, and has been since beta 2, but MS seem to have no intention of fixing it (still haven't done anything). The graphics drivers were also a big buggy, although ATi was just a little slow off the mark with that one, but they are apparently fixed now. The straw that broke the camels back was when Vista stopped recognising my DVD drives. After that I downgraded to XP and haven't looked back

    hmm..no point to be precise.
Crysis plays exactly the same if not better on DX-9
In fact during all the tech demos i attended they ran Crysis on XP boxes.
