Ok. i've been looking for a laptop that i can use since i really don't like staying at one spot i really kinda would like to get a laptopp and was considering this onee: http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pa...;source=ECH0020 anyone ever buy anything from alienware? if so was it a good buy? or do u guys think its a good buy?
I'd say they are WAAAY overpriced.. I'm sure you could build a good custom one for cheaper... Still, the idea of having an Alienware laptop is a good one
haha i don't know that much about computers which is why i would pretty much fail at building my ownn. but yeah i was thinkin about it it would take forever for a 16-year-old with a part time job to pay for that.
Yeah but its not the same. You can't go and brag to your friends and say "I have an alien ware system". I looked into these once before, not for gaming but for graphics (3d models), and I thought they were way over priced as well. I did almost build a custom one for about the exact same price, I believe it was $100 dollars short. This is just like the Macbooks, hell the one I was looking at was over $2000. I customized a windows with exact same parts and it was cheaper. Although it probably wouldn't have ran as smooth. Plus macs are awesome for graphics...
It's not exactly bragging rights. . . sure, everyone will be like "Wow! He has an Alienware Laptop!" but that is not the point. The point is that even though they happen to be thought as "Expensive" they have good products. Laptop you have no choice with. You HAVE to buy an OEM, thus you had better buy a nice one. And I love Alienware due to their 'Trade-In' service (Where in a couple years you can get it apraised and they will take the price of your old one and put it to your new Alienware, and they have pretty good over-all customer service. I have an Alienware, so I tend to know what I am talking about; As well, their pape work makes sense. I say, if that's what you want, then get it. Because Laptops are not choicable really. They are all manufactured, no "Build-it-yourself" about it. But I do say look around on ibuypower.com and falconnw and voodoo along with MAYBE Dell XPS if you are looking into the expensive comps. I agree. can you tell me where I can find laptop parts though? I sure the hell can't find any retail. that said, just look around weigh your priorities and make a descision. Alienware.dell is more marketting than substance, but it's not bad. Give a budget and some of us might be able to help/
Hell I dont know, I'm not a computer genious.. I hear people always on about custom computers, and assumed that you could build custom laptops too. Ah well.
Dell make the bestest laptops as far as good value and customization are concerned. Not Alienware, Dell. Besides, having worked in a shop that sells Alienware, they all look tacky as f***.
that would mean that in ever single scenario dell generates the best possible deal on laptops. I find that highly improbable. Very very very very improbable that in every scenario X brand of products is better than all other alternatives. Very very very improbable. You can say they tend to be good, that there is a general propensity for such. Never say anything in absolute terms. Anyone who mentions something in terms of absolutes is foolish. that said i haven't looked around too much. My advice is to go find a consumer report and find the MTBF for general models. Then make a list of the ones with a good MTBF and then go bargain hunting. Remember adding in your own RAM is relatively easy.
There are a few things you need to take into consideration when buying an OEM machine. - Speed or RAM (most will advertise 2048MB, but not mention the speed is 667 instead of 800) - Processor core / brand (ie, most will advertise as 2.4GHz Dual-Core, but a C2D dual-core is very different from an AMD 64 dual core) - Operating System ----- Vista right around now is just about getting stabalized, overall, we will need to convert some day, its your choice as to when. If you have a powerful computer, I would personally say its worth the chance, but if not, XP Pro SP2 still. - On Board Video. This is especially important for laptops, as you won't be capable of upgrading these without buying a new laptop, or as AKW said with alienwares systems, trade them in for appraisal on a newer system. That being said, the system I would recommend would be: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834220216 - Asus G Series 200GB 7200, 2GB 667 (good for a laptop), 256 8600 GT, C2D 2.4GHz - $1919 That would be over $1000 more on Alienware. Although, as AKW said, you can appraise and send you old laptop in for lower costs on new products for alienware, where Asus you cannot.
I'm going to be blunt, most trade in programs aren't THAT good. most of the time the appraisals are undervalued and then you have to buy from the same company again but at a premium. Just remember that before depending on it so much
yeah i think im going to wait a little bit and do some more research i was just gona get it cuz it looked like it had good things inside it all around graphics and memory wise but hmm idk after all these opinions ima do a little more research i appreciate all the opinions guys
That IS true, but then you are left with the laptop no one will even buy off of Ebay. As well, with Alienware you also get into a class, after a year, called "Dedicated user" and you get random money towards your system in E-Mails which add on to the price of the appraisal. So, I find that better than most places. I got a 400$ addition to any Alienware system in an E-Mail from Alienware themselves the other day. It is pretty nice. Anyways, not trying to sell you one, just want you to realize there are other things you need to look at with OEM computers. So. I agree, do some studying then when you get what you want figured out come back to us and we will be glad to further criticize your selection. =)
I also recall reading either in pcworld or consumer reports, that alienware loads the least amount of "crap" (all those 30day free trial and the dell studios or whatnot that always bugs the crap out of me me because i'm to lazy to get rid of it) on their computers, so you pay a bit more than some other places but also with reading the posts above they give you seom of the best service and don't trash your computer before you even get it but I don't own one so I could be wrong, but that's just what I read
