Just got CS3 today. Followed a tut, and still felt like was lost >_> What did I do wrong, exactly? I still have no idea what I'm doing.
Like, there is no rules for what is wrong and right. But, you can always look at it in this way. Appealing and not so appealing. Advices: The lightning is a bit idk, maybe lower the opacity of it a little. Effects in the background looks much like clouds, pretty good imo. But there is no effects renderwise. Save as png, which got better compression than jpg. Edit: Welcome to GR btw, enjoy it here.
Jeez. That's great for a first. You definitely weren't too lost. like mathiasa said, there aren't any rules, just conventions. I for one, like artistic conventions. I think they're established upon years of experimentation, but that's just me. follow some more tuts. remember practice makes really good. youre off to a good start already.

firstt of all, exellent first sig. read tuts tuts, and more tuts, you will get better and better good outcome for a first sig, well done
