Upgrading Video Card

    I'm planning to upgrade my 7600gs, I really want to go for 8800gt but the price is just too much for me, can anyone recommend me a good video card upgrade that isn't expensive as the 8800

    only sub $250 cards worth buying are the x1950pro(and similar) and 7900GS

    others are poor bang/$ or are too close to notably better cards

    I might give the x1950 a shot, never used an ATI card before. but which is better performance wise, x1950 or 7900gs/gt

    i prefer ATI i dont ythink theres a lot of differance

    7900GT is the fastest of those.

    the x1950pro and the 7900GS are neck and neck though and they trade blows depending on the game. The x1950s scale better though and do better in heavier games/higher settings(atleast in general)


    sticking to x number of companiesies is surefire way to get ripped off roughly

    Do NOT buy a 2600 or 8600 card. They'll be marginally better than your current card.

    Right now I'd recommend an x1950 or 7900GS/GT or a 8800GTS

    I actually suggest the x1950 over any of them I posted but I thought you would want choices is all.

    I like what's best but most of the time I have went with ATI. No particular reason other than compatability and just good service out of their products. I have ATI and I don't have any problems. Plus, their CCC allows overclocking without any modding. Not too sure about anything NVid has out right now, it has been awhile since I really had anything Nvid.

    Since when has nVidia needed modding to overclock?

    Also, product service is down to the manufacturer, not nVidia/ATI. Also, atm nVidia is miles in front of ATI as far as driver support goes.

    yeh software OCing is really easy on both sides of the game. both ATiToold and RivaTuner work on the other platform now.

    I'll be blunt though, the 8600s aren't THAT far behinf the x1950s and 7900s. It's just that they cost more PLUS they're slower. 7900GS or x1950 should run close to $100
