I am looking to buy a Laptop soon, and I would like to spend something like 800-1600 USD. I want a 17" widescreen display with a high resolution available. I need a computer that can run Photoshop at high canvas sizes, as well as running other programs such as dreamweaver, flash, fireworks, cinema4d, etc etc... This is basically all it will be used for, except for the occasional Starcraft relapse. I do not know much about computer, but I am looking for an HP or ASUS. I am willing to look at other brands as well, if you think you can find a better computer with a better or equal price. Anyways, these are what I have found so far that fits my criteria. Could someone tell me which one looks the best, or suggest other good laptops. I would also LOVE a computer coming with Windows XP, but downgrading from Vista is not out of the question.

If you're looking at HP, go to their website and look at the dv9500t and dv9500z (under their Home and Office section). You can customize those pretty well (definitely for your purposes) and still stay under $1600

Yeah. That's the thing about buying straight from the company's website. They preload nothing but Vista. I'd say that if you're going to spend that kind of money, taking an extra half-hour or so to downgrade to XP (if you really don't like Vista) is worth it. You get a nice, fast computer and the OS you want. And if, later on, you decide you want to try Vista again, you have it there for you.

Well I noticed you said you wish to run Cinema 4D, so as long as your have good specs for that program you'll be fine running Photoshop, Flash, ect)

Noticing that you wish to do 3D Graphics, and play Games I'm assuming you want fast speeds for rendering and such.

    I would suggest

    Intel DualCore @ 2.0 GHz ( Maybe 1.7) 64 bit
GeForce 8800 (seeeing that your willing to spend up to 1600... I recomend)
    4 GB RAM
    About 100 GB HD

DO NOT BUY A DELL not worth it...

Or if you wait a year the QuadCores will probably be down to about 1500 or so (3000 now)...

I'm just trying to get you the best for your needs...

Well, he is asking for a laptop and they come in PreConf. packages. For one, 64 bit? Why would say run 64 bit at all? Also, 2 Gigs of RAM is suffice for the time being. As SoDIMM is NOT LIKE DESKTOP RAM.

Just look around, and never worry about HDD space as you will most likely be using an external USB if you're a designer anyways (the C4D gave it away).

Buy a Dell. I'm serious, buy a Dell.

You douche-bag. Have you ever seen a computer before in your life?
You can't get 8800 series cards in laptops, not to mention it would be useless for CAD or design.
Quad cores are only a few hundred bucks. and 4 gig of RAM is overkill even in a desktop, and 100gb of HDD space is pathetically little.

Maybe you should do a computer night class with all the PC illiterate grandmas before you start spewing your crap.

EDIT: Just configured a 17" Dell with high res screen.

    Worked out like this

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
    2gig of DDR2 Ram
    8600 go
    250gig HDD

    for ~ $1600

    BUY A DELL :D :D :D :D :D

    Acer, Dell, Asus, Toshiba

That is what I would stick with unless you want to go into major bucks and get into:

    Voodoo, Falcon NW, Alienware

That's about all I have to say.

Stay away from Gateway, HP, and any other brand basically.

And MacBook = No support, just telling you now. Because if you call a tech. you always get: "Mac's do not get errors." *click*
So, if you want to go down that road, have at it, because all laptops are proprietory anyways.
