It's a good start. I think there's a lot going on that could easily rectified by blurring the background just a tad to add some depth. The border is kind of really bright, maybe lower the opacity? And the text could use some work. Nice start though!

    yes.
Don't ever nub on your own work. EVER. You are not bad, a noob, or did something wrong. If you don't think it's quite there, then you need to spend a little more time on it.

Just remember this, if you think it's not finished, and you need more work, where does it need it? where does this not fall into C.R.A.P.

    C.R.A.P is
    Contrast
Elements that aren’t the same should be very different so they stand out, making them “slightly different” confuses the user into seeing a relation that doesn’t exist. Strong contrast between elements allows the user’s eye to flow from one to another through the piece, instead of creating a sea of similarity that’s boring and not communicative.
    Repetition
Repeat styles for a cohesive feel — if you style related elements the same way in one area, continue that trend for other areas for consistency.
    Alignment
Everything on the page needs to be visually connected to something else, nothing should be out of place or distinct from all other design elements.
    Proximity
Proximity creates related meaning: elements that are related should be grouped together, whereas separate design elements should have enough space in between to communicate they are different.

That's it. But if you don't like your work, when will your client?

    hey man,
    it's good to be humble.
    Considering yourself a noob isn't
bad. ;) But you're better than most
    noobs I've seen.

Transluc3nt hit the nail on the head.
Blur the bg a little, don't overdo it or
it'll look bad, would make the tag look
    100 times better. ;)

Keep working on tuts and stuff,
you're well on your way mate. ;)

love this approach of thinking. Graphic designer's way of approaching things, even if they are just mere sigs.
