Last night I was listening to music and just talking on aim. All of a sudden a blue screen appears saying DUMPING PHYSICAL MEMORY. It auto restarted itself. Now whenever I try to boot normally it gets to the window logo (the first one with the repeating progress bar) and it stays on that for 20 seconds and just flashes a blue screen with some text and restarts. when I try to boot in safe mode I get a UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE error. I tried windows recovery and HP recovery but both just restart. I was wondering on how to solve this. All my files are still safe (i used a linux live cd to make sure they were) but I would like to use XP again. I am using a prebuilt computer so I do not own a copy of windows. To reformat would mean I would lose the OS or whatever. Is there any suggestions?
Last time that happened to me, it winded up being a damaged parition. I just reinstalled windows and it was working again.
remove every part from the sytem asside form the bare min(1 stick of RAM, 1 harddrive, baord, CPU heatsinks/fans/cooling). Then start swapping to see if it's a hardware issue. also try running live CD and run hardware tests from that. or it could be a corrupt OS as mentioned. I've corrupted OSes before. No big deal pop in a CD press enter etc/ DONE. also can you get in in via safe mode? could be a corrupt driver.
Happened to me before. Re-formatted and worked like a treat. But I suggest doing what xlink has said first.
I've found this error before. It ended up being bad sectors in the hard drive and you need the windows CD and run ckdisk. But if it's HP you don't have it, like me.. just the recovery disks. I'm not saying thats the problem with yours tho.. I've also found this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297185 Thats the only think I can suggest other than xlinks advice.
thanks for all the help. I cant boot in safe mode. I was wondeirng where I would get a recovery disk (as in are they free to download) or will I have to call HP for the disc or buy the os =/
Well, I think HP charges you for them. My pc gets a pop up every now and then asking to create a recovery disk. I think you might have to buy them if you have that big of an error. But HP usually has a partition in the hard drive which saves the data. Mine is labled D: drive. You can do a recovery from that partiton. Just unplug all devices such as printer ect. Except your mouse, keyboard and monitor of course. When you get the HP blue welcome screen tap F10 a few times. Go to start>all programs>HP tools> HP PC system recovery. Then just follow the on screen instructions. And it will take quite awhile to restart. Well thats if you can even boot that far. Here is the website address with the HP Instuctions for getting Recovery Disks. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=bph07143
