Interesting. Having Metallica and Megadeth on the same list. I quite prefer Megadeth over Metallica anyday for multiple reasons, but why get into that already annoying issue. Anyhoo. Some here are different kinds of metal, some may have only a hint of metal, so don't shot me. Onward.

    Devil Driver
Rammstein (german industrial band; really good)
Eisbrecher (another german industrial band; really good as well)
    KMFDM (same as both above)
    Nirvana
Megadeth (vocals annoy me a bit, but guitar playing owns)
    Van Halen
Comeback Kid (<33, but the vocals are so high pitch. Takes time to get used to)
    Megaherz (German industrial; wicked)
    Rob Zombie (meh)
    KoRn
System of A Down (got old)
    WolfMother (just a must)
    DethKlok (currently my fav)
    Killswitch Engage
    Clutch
Avenged SevenFold (meh, quite annoying at times, actually most)
    Dope
    Moonspell
    Children of Bodom
    Godsmack

I'm not really a big fan of Classic Metal, but it's nice to listen to something different once in a while. My list is weird. Oh well. Yay for the Germans. I need more Death Metal.

That's a VERY mainstream list... and it's a fact that mainstream Metal is dumbed down for the common man.

Only mainstream Metal band that is ------ing amazing, is Disturbed.

My opinnion: Disturbed = Hard Rock/Nu Metal

And Moonspell is very good, at least i think.

Meh, I could care less about bands being Mainstreamed or Non. Doesn't really matter as long as a person likes it.

Disturbed is highly overrated in my opinion. I'm only fond of one song, Down With The Sickness.

That being, probably, their most popular song...

I only like a few Mainstream bands...

    Metallica
    Slayer
    Arch Enemy
    Pantera
    Etc.

If you define mainstream as a major record label (including be popular), I don't really listen to that much in that. Killswitch Engage, Metallica (opens up iTunes), As I Lay Dying, COB, Every time I Die, In Flames, Job For A Cowboy, Lamb Of God, Slayer, and Shadows Fall.

Since when did Shadow's Fall become Mainstream? I've been listening to them, for the past 2-3 years... ------ing aweosme band.

And I wouldn't classify Disturbed as Hard Rock.... or Nu Metal for that matter.... they definitly have some iffy metal songs... but they are primarily Metal.

You can call them whatever you want. And : will do the same.. I'm not trying to be mean by that, I'm just saying.

That's what I hate about genres..It's obvious for some bands... But EVERYONE has a diff. opinnion on most.

But I guess it's good, because it makes for a good dicussion/debate. :P

Just wanted to let you know. the guys that whre talking about opeth on last page.
That mikael Akerfeld really inspires Porcupine Tree. don't know if you heard about them..
but damnation, deliverence and ghost reveries got produced by the lead singer of porcupine tree.
Mikael akerfeld Loves the sound of Porcupine tree and even says that that band is much and much better then what they are.
    eventough the styl is different.
but you can really hear the influence of porcupine tree in the song of opeth.
deliverence was made in like 5 days. so akerfeld says that that is their worsed album ever. and damnation what was amde after those 5 days is their best.
But i think their equal to eachother :P I like some songs on deliverence specially deliverence self :P
If you listen to the song "ariving somewhere but not here" of porcupine tree. you can hear the tipical akerfeld solo.
mikael akerfeld was very pleased to hear he could play with porcupine tree.
last sunday i was watching an interview of him about the new cd of Porcupine tree: fear of a blank planet.
he told like every song that he hears of porcupine tree is perfect. I mean. Mikael akerfeld one of the best guitar players in the world.
tells about an other band that they are much better then what he makes. the band was like in the older days. where the best band where the best. and now they don't think about that anymore. they know they aren't the best ( heard that from the ghost reveries dvd)
So,. If you listen to porcupine tree for a while. and you go back listening to opeth. you can hear the influence that Porcupine tree had on opeth.
the styl between acoustic and the overriven parts is because steve ( lead vocal of porcupine tree) helped mikael akerfeld with compose that way.
mayb you think now like. noo noway. they already dit that before. but the perfection has made it after those days where he got help.
Now lately I think Opeth is one of the most best band in the world.
My friend told me some days ago. when i told him i would ------ up my final exam test if opeth would come to holland during those days.
then he told me why wouldn't you follow them during their tour after that.
then i was like. if i had the time and the money. I would really do that.
cuz. I have been into those older albums of opeth lately like Orchid, My Armd your hears and specialy the songs: when and The Twilight Is My Robe.
but when i'm listening to their new albums (ghost reveries) I really love Benath the mire, Reverie/Harlequin Forest etc.
    So well.
    thats about it :P

    and about shadow fall,.
neh their not so awesome as you think they are.

    Wall of text less, plz?

And during Shadows Fall's middle career (art of balance, war within), was definitely their best. Their newest release sucks.

They're mainstream, in my definition, because they're on a major record label. Also, because their ---- is in a few video games. (madden, gears, burnout)

I basically consider mainstram usually if you are signed by a major label....but if that doesnt top it off, if your stuff is played on the radio....

But yes...That was a very long reply...But that's good because it's good for conversation.... :)

And, in my opinnion, I found Ghost reveries to be one of their worst albums....Though they were all at least some-what decent, I prefer all the others.... Even though GR was the first album I listened to, Then My Arms Your Heards....I still belive it's one of their worst albums, even if it is still decent.

    @MudDesignz tl;dr

Opeth and Porcupine Tree inspire eachother, originally Porcupine Tree inspired Opeth.

They are two great bands, not only instrumentally and melody/ organization but they have great lyrics.
I've seen Opeth twice, 2003 and 2005; then I was glad to see that Porcupine Tree came to the states and played near me in Cleveland... Luckily I had that Monday off of school, so I was able to take the 2 hour drive to go see them play.

It was funny, when I went to see Opeht the 1st time, I had no probleem getting a ticket the day before the show.... The 2nd time, I got my ticket the day they went on sale (seeing as I lived 3 minutes from the venue) and they sold out a couple weeks later.

I actually just listened to a band that I've heard a lot about but never took the time to listen to...

    All Shall Perish, anyone?

They're basically mainstream because they're signed by a Major label (nuclear Blast)... But Nuclear Blast has some kick ass bands, anyways....

I honestly don't care if a "Major record label" is on a band. That doesn't make them mainstream in my oppinion... but once it hits the Radio.... then it's mainstream.
