    I think it means you have to make it, whatever it will be, from scratch

    Yes, because it is still an image added. I think it all needs to be from scratch.

    Are custom brushes allowed?

    no render basically means that it has to be made in scratch in photoshop. when you go into cinema 4d you render something and that doesnt count. you can not use a stock because you did not make the stock.

    edit:

    and i will add that i have no problem with a vector, as long as you do the vector from scratch. you can not have any pre-produced image. if you draw a person in photoshop, then sure, you can use that.

    Can I submit an animated signature ? It is a pixelart I did for few friends on AO. I really like the outcome.

    There doesnt seem to be anything against it in the SOTW rules so I would say go ahead. There is no reason to DQ you if they are too lazy to add something to the rules.
